2.  According to research, reading helps to improve a student’s overall academic performance both in life and in school.  The act of reading, no matter how difficult the material may be, provides a means of enrichment that is much needed in our society.  Mahanoy Area will participate in summer reading to help both the students and the society.

3.  All high school students (including Votech students) must read two novels.  During the first two weeks of school, all students will receive an assessment over the novel(s).  Books will be available to check out in the high school office, the public library, or from the classroom teacher. If desired, books can also be purchased at a store or through the Nook or Kindle for your own personal use.
