Communion

2 Communion INTRODUCTION
There are two ordinances given to the Christian church by God. Communion Baptism

3 Communion INTRODUCTION
Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is the second ordinance given by God to the Church. This study will look at what Scripture has to say about Communion. It will be quite a bit different from what many other denomination churches teach about Communion. As in all things, however, we want to learn from God instead of telling God what He should be teaching us.

4 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Instruction of what our celebration of the Lord’s Supper entails has been given to us by Jesus and reiterated by Paul. Before we look at what man would teach about Communion, let’s start off with what God teaches us about Communion.

5 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Luke 22:19 – 20 gives us an account of what Jesus said, Luke 22:19–20 (KJV) 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

6 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
We see this last supper was to be a rememberance of what Jesus had done for us. The bread and the wine are there for us to remember what Jesus had done for us. This means they are a symbol of what he did, not his actual body and blood … as some falsely teach.

7 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Matthew gives another similar account of this last supper. Matthew 26:26–28 (KJV) 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

8 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Now, I ask you, did either of these accounts state Jesus tore off hunks of his own flesh to give to his disciples to eat? Did he spill his own blood into a cup for his disciples to drink? The obvious answer to both questions is NO!

9 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Why is it then that a cult with some billion members teach that folks are eating the flesh of Jesus and drinking his blood? Folks this is not an exaggeration. According to the Pontifical Yearbook, the number of Roman Catholics was billion at the end of 2010.

10 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION? The Gospel of Mark also agrees with the other accounts. Mark 14:22–24 (KJV) 22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

11 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
We need to actually add verse 25 here to point out that Jesus and his disciples were drinking wine and not blood. Mark 14:25 (KJV) 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

12 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
All the gospels agree that the bread symbolizes the body of Christ; the blood symbolizes the blood of Christ. They are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus; they serve as a reminder of Jesus and the New Testament he brought.

13 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Paul, also, explains what Communion is. 1 Corinthians 11:23–24 (KJV) 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

14 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Paul, also, explains what Communion is. 1 Corinthians 11:25–26 (KJV) 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

15 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Paul is in agreement with what we read in the Gospels. He, after all, received of the Lord that which he also delivered. We are to remember Jesus whenever we participate in the Lord’s Supper or Communion.

16 Communion WHAT IS COMMUNION?
Paul says, as often as we eat this bread, and drink this cup, we do show the Lord’s death till he come. Notice it says we eat bread and drink of the cup, which we have seen contained wine.

17 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
We have examined what the ordinance of Communion is. We have looked at it from what Scripture says. It is summed up in the statement we just read: “Paul says, as often as we eat this bread, and drink this cup, we do show the Lord’s death till he come.”

18 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
As usual, along come men under the influence of our enemy, Satan. They teach it is no longer enough to believe as Scripture states. If we want to be a part of their group (i.e. CULT), then we will believe as they tell us to believe.

19 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
These cults practice communion as merely an exercise that is performed every time they get together. If an exercise is done on a regular basis, it just becomes a “natural” thing to do … you don’t even have to think about it. Just like exercise develops muscle memory so you don’t have to think about it intellectually, a regular practice turns off your brain from thinking about what you are doing.

20 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
This is what happens to communion in all these mega cults like Catholicism, Lutheranism, Protestantnism, and all the other ism’s out there disguising their cultish practices as religion ordained by God the Father himself. You read God’s Word and you realize God is not pleased at all … He is not blessing their efforts. If their efforts are not being blessed, then they can only be cursed!

21 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
As I have stated on many occasions, I grew up in the Catholic church. I know what Catholicism teaches. They teach heresy! They teach blasphemous things! They are ANATHEMA!! Anathema – Excommunication with curses.

22 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
While Catholicism uses the words, “do this in remembrance of me” in their Satanic mass, the real message is very contrary to what Jesus spoke. As we saw before, the bread is unleavened bread. It represents Jesus’ body as a perfect, sinless body. The wine represents Jesus’ blood which pays for the sins of all who believe on Jesus.

23 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
That is a Scriptural meaning to the bread and wine of Communion. Catholicism teaches, however, that when you eat the bread you are eating the literal flesh of Jesus. Catholicism teaches that when you drink the wine, you are drinking the literal blood of Jesus.

24 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
This is a part of Paragraph 1333 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. “At the heart of the Eucharistic celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ’s Body and Blood. …” Catholic Church. (2000). Catechism of the Catholic Church (2nd Ed.) (336). Washington, DC: United States Catholic Conference. Invocation: supplication, appeal

25 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
“…Faithful to the Lord’s command the Church continues to do, in his memory and until his glorious return, what he did on the eve of his Passion: “He took bread.…” “He took the cup filled with wine.…” …” Catholic Church. (2000). Catechism of the Catholic Church (2nd Ed.) (336). Washington, DC: United States Catholic Conference.

26 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
“…The signs of bread and wine become, in a way surpassing understanding, the Body and Blood of Christ;…” Catholic Church. (2000). Catechism of the Catholic Church (2nd Ed.) (336). Washington, DC: United States Catholic Conference.

27 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Their own statements of belief profess they are eating the literal Body of Christ, and drinking the literal Blood of Christ. This all done in a way that surpasses understanding. It surpasses my understanding that people can actually believe something this hideous and contrary to Scripture!

28 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Scripture does not list human flesh among those that are given to man by God to eat. For those who think cannibalism is okay, though, don’t worry, there’s a day coming after the true Church has been raptured where fathers will eat their sons and the sons shall eat their fathers. The eating of human flesh involves judgment against man by God!

29 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Ezekiel 5:8 (KJV) 8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.

30 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Ezekiel 5:9–10 (KJV) 9 And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations. 10 Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments in thee, and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter into all the winds.

31 Now, concerning the eating of blood.
Communion THE FALSE TEACHING Now, concerning the eating of blood.

32 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Leviticus 17:11–14 (KJV) 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. 12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

33 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Leviticus 17:13–14 (KJV) 13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust. 14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

34 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Folks, no matter what the leader of the group you belong to says, check it against Scripture. There is no miraculous event called Transubstantiation that goes on when a priest performs an incantation over a wafer of unleavened bread and a cup of wine and water. It is blasphemous to think otherwise!

35 Communion THE FALSE TEACHING
Leviticus 19:26 (KJV) 26 Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use ENCHANTMENT, nor observe times. ENCH`ANTMENT, n. The act of producing certain wonderful effects by the invocation or aid of demons, or the agency of certain supposed spirits; the use of magic arts, spells or charms; incantation.

36 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
The apostle Paul had to deal with those in the Corinthian church mishandling Communion, or the Lord’s Supper. This is why he wrote what he did in 1 Corinthians 11. There will always be false teaching going on, so be careful of what you allow yourself to believe! Scripture with Scripture!

37 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
We already read Paul’s instruction in the Communion. Paul also speaks about the results of not properly participating in the Lord’s Supper.

38 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
1 Corinthians 11:27–28 (KJV) 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

39 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
1 Corinthians 11:29–30 (KJV) 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

40 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
1 Corinthians 11:31–32 (KJV) 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

41 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
1 Corinthians 11:27–34 (KJV) 33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. 34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

42 COMMUNION IS TO BE TAKEN CORRECTLY
It is only when we partake of Communion correctly that we glorify God. We are doing this in remembrance of Jesus until He comes. Do not put your trust in man or an organization, only trust what Jesus tells us in His Word, The entire King James Bible!

43 Communion SALVATION REQUIRED
Only those who have believed on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus as their only means of salvation can take part in Communion. To not be a believer means you are only eating and not remembering Jesus until He returns. Have you believed on Jesus for your salvation? Are you looking for Jesus to come?
