pHpH pH scale- measure of H + ions (acidity); “power of hydrogen” H + = hydronium ion OH- = hydroxide ion #10.

pHpH acid- lots of H+ ions – taste sour – feel watery #11.

pHpH base- lots of OH- ions – taste bitter – feel slippery #12.

pHpH neutral- equal amounts of H+ and OH- ions – Ex: water neutralize- combining an acid and a base to form water #13.

pHpH buffer- any substance that resists a change in pH – Many life biological reactions have a small pH range – Example: blood (pH 7.35 – 7.45) buffering capacity- the ability to resist a change in pH #14. #15.
