2 pH pH scale- measure of H+ ions (acidity); “power of hydrogen” #10.
H + = hydronium ion OH- = hydroxide ion

3 pH acid- lots of H+ ions taste sour feel watery #11.

4 pH base- lots of OH- ions taste bitter feel slippery #12.

5 pH neutral- equal amounts of H+ and OH- ions
Ex: water neutralize- combining an acid and a base to form water #13.

6 pH buffer- any substance that resists a change in pH
Many life biological reactions have a small pH range Example: blood (pH 7.35 – 7.45) buffering capacity- the ability to resist a change in pH #14. #15.
