Hebrews 7:1 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace."

It’s difficult to imagine what a huge part the temple and the priesthood played in the lives of these people. Take a look at the imposing structure of the Temple and we can somewhat understand.

25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

 Our choices:  Try to approach God by our works  Ignore the need for an intercessor  Go to a human intercessor  Accept Jesus as our intercessor
