3 The Mona Lisa Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is possibly the most famous portrait ever painted. This is partly due to the strange looking smile. The painting illustrates a woman in proper Florentine clothing for the 1400’s in front of a mountainous landscape. While it is unknown who the model was for this painting, some have suggested that Da Vinci used himself as the model. This was suggested because of similarities in the facial features of Da Vinci and the woman. Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is possibly the most famous portrait ever painted. The painting uses mostly darker colors, such as greens and browns, in the background and browns and black for the woman’s clothing. The painting creates a feeling of mystery because one does not know why the woman is smiling such a strange looking smile.
