1 Drupal Basics Part 5 Understanding Blocks Using the theme Agricultural Communications Services Integrated Media Training Sessions www.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/

2 The College has an official theme set up for your site’s design. It will have the official header with the blue banner and black tab navigation and footer. The structure of the site allows for some flexibility in the design for your specific content. Blocks: An Overview Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 1

3 In this example, the blocks are the left and right columns. Each light blue square is a “block”. A block can be edited, you may want to change a photo, add a link, or update the alerts and events. Go to “User login” Enter your unique Username: and Password: Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 2

4 Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 3 If you want to change the first block with the word “Veterinary” click on “administer” and look for the “Block” section.

5 Notice the “Block” is under the heading “Site Building”. Click on the word “Block”. A new page will pop up showing you all the blocks on your site. Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 4

6 Notice on the Block page, it’s basically arranged by left and right sidebars (columns), Header, Menus and Footer Blocks. The block for Veterinary is listed as being on the left sidebar. To edit the Veterinary block, click on “configure”. You will see the editing page Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 5

7 Click on the photo, and click on the insert image icon. Choose a new photo by double clicking on it, or browse for the photo you want by clicking on upload. SAVE Refer to Training Part 4 on sizing and formatting. Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 6

8 To add/delete items off the “Latest Alerts” or “Events” blocks, click on the links in the top black main tabs and go to the page, then edit as normal and save. To edit any of the pages on the site, you can click on the link above and it will go to the page. Then go to the edit tab and make changes and save. Understanding Blocks: Part 5 slide 7
