7 Current Situation – Reaching Higher II In 2005, the Ontario Government announced “Reaching Higher” a five-year funding plan for Ontario post-secondary Institutions. COU is looking begin discussions with MTCU on the next five year funding plan set to begin in 2010-11. York should work now position itself as MTCU develops the new plan.

8 Elements of Reaching Higher Reaching Higher I had four key elements – Quality – Access – Growth – Health Human Resources Quality ~ $250 M allocated over 3 areas – Unfunded BIUs – General Quality – Special Projects

9 Elements of Reaching Higher Growth ~ $300 M – Focus on graduate expansion – Unexpected undergraduate expansion has been problematic. Health Human Resources ~ $100 M –Undergraduate & postgraduate MD expansion –Small amount for clinical education

10 Elements of Reaching Higher Access ~ $30 M across several areas – Northern Grants – Bilingual Grants – First Generation – Students with Disabilities

11 Possibilities for Reaching Higher II Growth – GTA Growth will be a key focus – Enrolment Contracts – Mirrors York’s Strategic Growth to rebalance –Partnerships with other postsecondary partners. Quality – Need to define what we mean by quality –Likely to continue the focus on pilot projects

12 Possibilities for Reaching Higher II Health Human Resources – Faculty of Health & proposed York Medical School – Focus on delivery in York Region Access – Pathways between Colleges and Universities –Build on York’s leadership in bilingual and accessibly (first generation) education
