7 Current Situation – Reaching Higher II In 2005, the Ontario Government announced “Reaching Higher” a five-year funding plan for Ontario post-secondary Institutions. COU is looking begin discussions with MTCU on the next five year funding plan set to begin in York should work now position itself as MTCU develops the new plan.

8 Elements of Reaching Higher Reaching Higher I had four key elements – Quality – Access – Growth – Health Human Resources Quality ~ $250 M allocated over 3 areas – Unfunded BIUs – General Quality – Special Projects

9 Elements of Reaching Higher Growth ~ $300 M – Focus on graduate expansion – Unexpected undergraduate expansion has been problematic. Health Human Resources ~ $100 M –Undergraduate & postgraduate MD expansion –Small amount for clinical education

10 Elements of Reaching Higher Access ~ $30 M across several areas – Northern Grants – Bilingual Grants – First Generation – Students with Disabilities

11 Possibilities for Reaching Higher II Growth – GTA Growth will be a key focus – Enrolment Contracts – Mirrors York’s Strategic Growth to rebalance –Partnerships with other postsecondary partners. Quality – Need to define what we mean by quality –Likely to continue the focus on pilot projects

12 Possibilities for Reaching Higher II Health Human Resources – Faculty of Health & proposed York Medical School – Focus on delivery in York Region Access – Pathways between Colleges and Universities –Build on York’s leadership in bilingual and accessibly (first generation) education
