2 Structure Generic MA Programme structure  120 credit points of taught units  60 credit point research dissertation Full time  Generally, 60 credit points per teaching block  Preparation and submission of dissertation between the close of the taught units (May) and the final submission deadline (15 September) Part time  Generally, 60 credit points per year  Preparation and submission of dissertation in Year 2

3  Each credit-bearing unit carries an assessment  For certain units there will be different elements within the assessment (e.g. essay + another exercise)  50% pass-mark When things go wrong  Failure on a unit cannot be ‘condoned’, i.e. a failed assessment must be subject to re-submission and re-assessment in order to recover the credit-points.  Re-submission must occur at the point of failure. 4 Progression  You must pass each unit of the taught component in order to progress to the dissertation.  Your right to progress is confirmed by a Faculty meeting in June/July.  Failure to progress will result in withdrawal from the programme: if you have secured sufficient credit points you may be entitled to receive a postgraduate diploma or a postgraduate certificate.

5 Dissertation Preparation  You will agree a topic and supervision arrangements with your programme director before you begin your research.  You are entitled to meetings with your supervisor during term-time; generally, your supervisor will agree to respond to queries during the summer period.  Your supervisor is not permitted to read and comment on a draft of the entire dissertation. Assessment  The dissertation is assessed by two internal markers and by the external examiner.  You may request written feedback on your dissertation.  Programme directors may arrange verbal feedback from appropriate staff.

6 Contingencies  Change of status full-time, part-time  Extension to a submission deadline apply in advance, with supporting documents  Suspension of studies i.e. time out from the programme
