2 7 th Annual Summer Institute By: LATI (Louisiana Assistive Technology Initiative) LATI http://www.doe.state.la.us/divisions/specialp/assistive_technology.html The mission of the Louisiana Assistive Technology Initiative (LATI) is to provide leadership and support to local education agencies and families in the development and implementation of assistive technology services that will have meaningful application for the educational, social, recreational, vocational, and developmental experiences of students with disabilities. Region 7 is only one of the 8 regional centers throughout Louisiana. Region 7 services the northwest region of Louisiana. Do you have access to smart phone? Do you have access to flip camera, digital camera that takes video, or any other type of video recording device? Why, ideas and examples discussion, video examples, how, and “your turn”. Who are We? Mission Jumping in to the Video Literacy Folder Presenters Getting to know you Karrie Bennett is one of the two Region 7 Assistive Technology Strategist/Facilitator and Rebecca Hanberry is a special education teacher in Bossier Parish.

3 Louisiana DOE Recommends Video Clips in the Literacy Folder Video Clips: video of students engaging in literacy experiences in both small and large groups will provide a quick vision to a new team. Include both reading and writing experiences, showing level of scaffolding. Why VIDEO in the Literacy Folder? Reading and Writing Scaffolding Engaging Vision

4 The following videos provide video clips of students with significant disabilities engaged in literacy activities. When observing these clips, consider the following points: Level of student engagement in activity Adaptation/modifications linked to student needs Clarity of instruction Learning outcomes for student Age appropriateness Strategies that might be used to include this instruction within the context of a general education class/activity Ideas and Examples
