3. Culture Japan is known as the Land of the Rising Sun due to the Chinese beliefs. The Japanese believe in Shintoism (the belief in nature spirits) Kami- Gods

4. Social Structure The emperor s palace is in Kyoto. The emperor did not have real power in Japan. The shogun s palace was in Edo (modern day Tokyo). The shogun was the most powerful man in Japan. The shogun was the military leader. The Daimyo were the feudal lords. They held most of Japan s land.

5. The Samurais were warriors in Japan who served their lords (daimyos). If they failed in battle, they were to commit suicide (Seppuku or Hari Kami). Farmers and Craftsman had the job to make weapons and give supplies to the samurais and daimyos. The craftsmen in the bottom of the social structure.
