11 What is the purpose of Talent Search? To identify, recruit and select students who have the potential to succeed in completing high school and the desire to go to a two year college or to a four year college or university! MIT Princeton Yale Rice

19 What are the requirements to be a participant of Talent Search? 2/3rds of our participants must be first generation college students (367 students out of 550 students) What does first generation college student mean? An individual neither of whose natural or adoptive parents received a baccalaureate degree (ex: B.A. & B.S.) An individual who, prior to the age of 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or an adoptive parent (ex: living with Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt, Uncle, or Relative) (Taken from the Code of Federal Regulations {CFR} Title 34-Education Part 643-Talent Search)

20 What are the requirements to be a participant of Talent Search? All participants must have acceptable grades & conduct 2.5 GPA minimum (Ds & Fs are not acceptable) Must have satisfactory marks in conduct If a student falls below the grade point average expectation, he/she shall be placed on an improvement plan

21 What are the requirements to be a participant of Talent Search In Middle School? If accepted into the program, All participants in grades 7 th – 12 th must commit to attend no less than 2 ETS sponsored functions in the Fall & 2 ETS sponsored functions in the Spring. Functions could be: An advising session A counseling session A cultural enrichment activity A college or university campus visit

22 What will Talent Search offer me as a Middle School student ? A summer Leadership Academy will be held for ALL middle school participants (including rising 7 th graders)on Monday, July 22 nd through Thursday, July 25 th from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Participants will be provided with morning snacks/lunch/afternoon snacks and the academy will focus on: Self-Esteem Development Conflict Resolution-Peer Pressure Team Building Texting & Facebook Dangers Goal Setting Career Awareness Social Network Etiquette & Proper Usage A Local College/University Campus Visit

23 What are the requirements to be a participant of Talent Search? 100% of participants are expected to graduate from high school with a Recommended or Distinguished diploma within 4 years of starting high school (a Minimum diploma is not considered a rigorous curriculum & is discouraged as an ETS participant)

24 What are the requirements to be a participant of Talent Search? 100% of participants who are seniors and graduate from high school are expected to apply and attend a 2 year college or 4 year university. All participants are expected to apply for financial aid
