A scientific publication describes the subfield of publishing which distributes academic research and scholarship. Most academic work is published in journal article, book or thesis form. Academic publishing is undergoing major changes, as it makes the transition from the print to the electronic format. Scientific Publication

An academic conference or symposium is a meeting for researchers to present and discuss their work. In other words, Together with academic or scientific journals, conferences provide an important channel for exchange of information between researchers. Academic conference

An academic journal is a peer-reviewed periodical in which scholarship relating to a particular academic discipline is published. Academic journals serve as forums for the introduction and presentation of new research, and the critique of existing research. Content typically takes the form of articles presenting original research, review articles, and book reviews. Academic Journal

In academic publishing, a paper is an academic work that is usually published in an academic journal. It contains original research results or reviews existing results. Such a paper, also called an article, will only be considered valid if it undergoes a process of peer review by one or more reviewers (who are academics in the same field) who check that the content of the paper is suitable for publication in the journal. Scientific Paper (Article)

Research Article An article reporting on the results of one or more practical studies or experiments, written by the person(s) who conducted the research. Review Article An article summarizing the results of studies or experiments, often attempting to identify trends or draw broader conclusions. Scientific Paper (Article)

Peer review is a central concept for most academic publishing; other scholars in a field must find a work sufficiently high in quality for it to merit publication. The process also protects against plagiarism. A Peer review

Scopus Index Scopus is a database containing abstracts and citations for academic journal articles. It covers nearly 21,000 titles from over 5,000 publishers, of which 20,000 are peer-reviewed journals in the scientific, technical, medical, and social sciences (including arts and humanities). It is owned by Elsevier and is available online by subscription.

Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) was founded by Eugene Garfield in 1960. It was obtained by Thomson Scientific & Healthcare in 1992 and became known as Thomson ISI. It offered database services as well. It maintains citation databases covering thousands of academic journals. This database allows a researcher to identify which articles have been cited most frequently, and who has cited them.
