News on GOLD activities at conferences: GOLD event at NSS-MIC went well, about 35 young attendees. Slight modification to existing format better contact between attendees and speakers Special invitation to GOLD members planned from 2014 conference(s) by e-mail some days before the conference. NPSS-GOLD chair was invited to a high school for a career-development day (October 18, 2013, about 100 attendees) slide with pros and cons to become a researcher. (is to become IEEE Young Professionals) The first ten years after graduation from university can be challenging for young professionals. Employment searches, new jobs, professional growth, career development, and life status changes are common experiences for many recent graduates. Going through these challenges can be daunting but IEEE members never have to go through these experiences alone or uninformed. GOLD report If one does a search for mentors by specifying only NPSS as the society, one gets 2 hits (136 in total in IEEE): Jun, for instance, has 2 hours per week time for mentoring activities. Couldnt some more experienced NPSS members act as mentors for young IEEE colleagues?
