MANGANESE GREENSAND To reduce high levels of Iron & Manganese with associated staining and the smell of Hydrogen Sulphide

Treatment for High Levels of Iron, Manganese and Hydrogen Sulphide. Taking a water sample for analysis will provide the levels of Iron, Manganese and Hydrogen Sulphide present which will determine which treatment will be the most effective and economical. We can help with taking water samples and providing a written report on the levels present in the water, along with our recommendations for the best treatment option(s), for your consideration. When the amount of Iron or Manganese exceeds what can be effectively removed by an in-line pleated cartridge, a media tank fitted with a control valve to reduce the levels is the answer. Dissolved Iron and Manganese is oxidised to speed precipitation, which is then filtered out, so only clean water enters the home. Treated water is delivered into a storage tank of your choice, sized to suit. We can arrange delivery and installation of tank, pump and treatment by fully trained and well experienced Registered Plumbers, familiar with all systems
Manganese Greensand Manganese greensand is formulated from a glauconite greensand which is capable of reducing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulphide from water through oxidation and filtration. Soluble iron and manganese are oxidised and precipitated by contact with higher oxides of manganese on the greensand granules. The hydrogen sulphide is reduced by oxidation to an insoluble sulphur precipitate. Precipitates are then filtered and removed by backwashing. When the oxidising capacity power of the Manganese Greensand is exhausted. The bed has to be regenerated with a weak potassium permanganate solution thus restoring the oxidising capacity of the bed. 1 ½ to 2 ounces of potassium permanganate, in solution, per cubic foot of Manganese Greensand is considered sufficient for normal regeneration. It is required to vigorously backwash and regenerate the bed when it is placed in service and before its oxidisation capacity is totally exhausted. Operating the bed after oxidisation capacity is exhausted will reduce its service life and may cause staining.
Control Valves Whole House Water Treatment Systems We have a range of these units, with completely automatic control valves. The control valve is fitted onto a round FRP tank (either 10x 54 high or 12 x 52 high) filled with manganese greensand media to correct the water problem(s) to comply with the NZ Water Standards. The system is installed between the well pump and a water storage tank. A pressure pump then delivers all the water for the house or business to bring the water to an acceptable standard for use.
