Introduction A traffic accident occurred in a 35 km/hr speed limit zone on Millway Street in which a 3000-kg Cadillac Escalade SUV rear-ended a 2000-kg Subaru Outback Wagon that was stopped at a stop sign. Immediately following the collision the SUV skid 2m and the Wagon skidded 24m.

Auto Expert (me) I calculated the velocities of both the SUV and the Wagon immediately when the collision occurred. The velocity of the Wagon was much higher, 12.0 m/s, due to the amount of force that was exerted onto the Wagon from the SUV, whose velocity was 2.83 m/s.

Collision Expert (Chris) Chris found the speed that the SUV was going at time of impact. He found that the SUV was going 39 km/hr when the SUV ran into the Wagon. Chris also found the momentum of both vehicles after impact. The SUV had a momentum of 8,490 kg*m/s and the wagon had a momentum of 24,000 kg*m/s.

Investigator (Abby) Abby found the kinetic energy before and after the impact to see what kind of collision had occurred. She said that before the impact The SUV had kinetic energy of 175, and the Wagon had kinetic energy of 0. After the collision she found that the Wagon had kinetic energy of 144,000 and the SUV has kinetic energy of 12,

Conclusion In conclusion the SUV was found to be travelling at 10.83m/s, or 39km/h. The momentum of the system was 32490kg*m/s.
