2. Car Hoist Before a car is moved onto the hoist
Make sure you have read all safety stickers
Make sure you are trained and feel proficient with the hoists operation
Make sure work area is clear of any hazards

Make sure there is nothing on the ramps or platforms
Make sure the center lifts are all the way down
Walk all the way around and make a physical inspection of the hoist

4. Car Hoist Physical inspection of the hoist
Check that all the bolt holding the hoist to the ground look undamaged
Check that the metal cables in the 4 posts look tight
Check that the power cord is plugged in
Again make sure the area is clear of hazards both on the ground and above the hoist
Look for anything unusual

5. DO NOT USE IT!! REPORT IT!! PUT A SIGN ON IT!!

If you noticed any physical damage during your inspection
DO NOT USE IT!!
REPORT IT!!
PUT A SIGN ON IT!!

6. Car Hoist Before a car is moved onto the hoist
Make sure you have all the tools you expect to need for the job
Make sure you have all the parts you expect to need for the job
Make sure you have 4 wheel chalks (one for each tire)

7. Car Hoist
Have your instructor bring the car into the shop and onto the Hoist
Once the car is on the hoist check and make sure it is centered correctly (walk around the car and check)
Place the wheel chalks in front of the front wheels and behind the back wheels
Make sure wheel chalks are tight against the wheels

Make sure the car is in gear
Make sure the Emergency Brake is on
If the car has a
Automatic Transmission
Make sure the car is in park

9. Car Hoist
If you will be working in the engine compartment make sure the hood is opened before you lift the car this will allow more light in the work area

10. Car Hoist
Working with a buddy make sure the area around the car is clear. You should both be standing at opposite corners of the hoist
Announce that the hoist is being raised Call out “ALL CLEAR”
DO NOT operate the hoist until you hear your Buddy echo “ALL CLEAR”

11. Car Hoist
Using the controls press the black button on the motor to raise the car
Watch to make sure all 4 corners are going up at the same rate
Raise the car to a safe working height
if you will be working on the wheels raise the car so the platforms are at waist hieght center jack will lift wheels to chest height
If you are working under the car raise the car so you can walk under the car without banging your head

12. Car Hoist
As the hoist is going up you will hear loud clicking sounds. These sounds are the lock clicks
Once you have raised the car to the desired height you must go a little higher until you hear the clicking sound
Once you hear the clicking sound go about 4 extra inches

13. Car Hoist Now push on the silver lever with the black knob
At this time you will hear a shsh sound of air
The hoist should come down and the platform arms should rest on the post rests
If the hoist is not coming down evenly at all 4 corners STOP and go back up again until the hoist is level
What happened is that all 4 of the platform arms had not gone past the 4 post rests of the same height

14. Car Hoist
Again raise the car until you are past the desired height and repeat the lowering technique. If the hoist does not come to a level rest on all 4 post rests raise the hoist and call your instructor over. DO NOT LEAVE THE HOIST AREA
If the hoist has come down and has stopped going down it would mean the platform arms are resting on the 4 post rests and the car and hoist are in a safe working state

15. Car Hoist To Lower the car when you are finished follow these steps.
Make sure you have put all unneeded tools away
Check that all the area under the hoist platform is clear –remove all used parts, tools, air hoses, etc…
Make sure that all unnecessary objects are remove from the top of the hoist platforms

16. Car Hoist To Lower the car when you are finished follow these steps.
Make sure all 4 wheel chalks are properly placed against all 4 wheels
Again working with a buddy at the opposite corner announce to the room that the hoist is about to come down “ALL CLEAR
Wait for your Buddy to echo “ALL CLEAR”

17. Car Hoist To Lower the car when you are finished follow these steps.
1st Raise the car up about 10 inches
2nd Press and hold the Red button
3rd Holding the Red button in the depressed state push the chome handle with the black knob towards the hoist The hoist should start coming down. Keep your eyes on the hoist to identify any problems and to make sure that the hoist is coming down evenly at all 4 corners
If it is not raise the hoist up until it is level

18. Car Hoist To Lower the car when you are finished follow these steps.
4th If you had problems at the 3rd step repeat from step 1 otherwise keeping the red button depressed lower the hoist until it comes to a stop on the ground
If at anytime you are unsure of something STOP lowering the hoist. Raise it to a secure level and call your teacher over before continuing
