A record 8 EU countries grew either bt maize or bt potatoes which was the first approval for planting in 13 years. South Africa and Burkina Faso in africa are two leading countries that have adopted GMOs esp in maize and cotton The global value of biotech food(maize, soya bean etc) was valued at USD 150B in 2010 Many of the GMOs developed have been selected after very many years of research and therefore considered safe for human and animal consumption. Kenyan Biosafety Act of 2009 has established an authority that ensures the safety of the GMOs for human and animal consumption. international agreements eg the Cartagena protocol on biosafety assures adequate level of protection against any possible adverse effects of GMOs on human health Biosafety measures have been put in place GMO technology has been embraced internationally Risk assesment and safety No scientific evidence or otherwise has been gathered so far in the 15 years that GMO technology has been in place Rigorous scientific assessment risk mitigation measures have been put in place by national and international bodies eg. Convention of biological diversity of 1992 Great scientific research has been conducted to ensure security of man and environment
