TWA MISSION Transborder Wildlife (NATYRA NDERKUFITARE) is a Non Governmental Organization that works to monitor and enhance the protection measures for environment. TWA works together with local people for the protection of environment, natural resources and wildlife enabling the community to implement effective measures that contribute to their livelihoods and sustainable development.

The main objectives The reduction and protection of habitat destruction especially forest habitats and improvement of natural resources Large carnivores conservation Animal rights protection and public awareness campaign against captivity and cruelty of animals. Public participation for management and development of Community forest. The improvement of environment laws. Conservation of protected areas.

MEMBERSHIP Transborder wildlife is member of 2 BIG International organization: -WSPA -International Land Coalition.

PROBLEMS RELATED TO ANIMALS CAPTIVITY: The animals in captivity is increasing especially in some restaurants which are using animal captivity to attract more people. In some of them are being created small improvised zoos etc with very bad conditions for animals. The actual legal status for the protection of animals in the country dos not protect the animal rights against captivity and cruelty. Public awareness is low and people do not support animal rights.

TWA is surveying captivity in Albania. Aim: Estimate the number of brown bear and other wildlife in captivity as real facts to be used in the future for protection of animal rights and welfare. WHY ?

BECAUSE…. Some months ago the captivity of donkey and wolf in Albania told to many people all over the world the fact that animals in Albania are under ill-treatment.

RESULTS TO BE ACHIEVED 1) Better Information on the number of animals captivity in Albania. 2) Develop a networking of people as colleagues, other local or national NGOs. 3) Improve public awareness. 4) Push the government to improve animal cruelty.

FUTURE ACTION TO BE TAKEN Localise in continuity the captivity of large carnivors Use the collected data as prove to the Government to undertake real measures for the protection of animal welfare. Elaboration a long-term management programm for wildlife in captivity. Development public awareness programm against captivity and cruelty of animals, press release etc. Improvement and implementation of the existing law for captivity, related in the future to: The political will and abilities of the state authorities See the availability to create in the future host places, bear/wolf sanctuary etc.
