Changing of the guard… In Oct. 2012, Andrée Blais-Stevens (ABS) stepped down as International Director for CFES. She asked Stephen Johnston if he would step in and he agreed only if he gets nominated. IGCP, IUGS, NRC need to be advised.

Members of the International committee Even though ABS has stepped down, her committee members will stay until Spring 2014 Dr. Wouter Bleeker: Geological Survey of Canada. Dr. Brian Bornhold, Coastal and Ocean Resources Dr. Chris Burn, Carleton University Dr. Anne de Vernal, UQAM, Chair of CCOD at IODP Canada Dr. John Cassidy, Geological Survey of Canada. Dr. Norm Catto, Memorial University of Newfoundland Dr. Marten Geertsema, BC Ministry of Forests and Range Dr. Matthias Jakob BGC Consulting Dr. Jacques Locat, Université Laval Dr. Brian Moorman, University of Calgary, Dept. of Geography Dr. Bryan Schreiner, Saskatchewan Research Council (advisor) Dr. Sharon Smith, Geological Survey of Canada Dr. Doug Stead, Simon Fraser University Dr. Jim Teller, University of Manitoba (advisor)

Reports and updates ABS answered a call for nominations for new IUGS council member. Two names were submitted: Marten Geertsema (BC Min. of Forests and Range) and Stephen Johnston (U. of Victoria). Voting took place at IGC in Brisbane, August 2012. Stephen Johnston was elected as councillor. No explanation re: MG ABS wrote a year-end report to NRC in December for CFES as a requirement to NRC for payment of yearly dues, which are ~ $11k. NRC approved the report and paid the dues. ABS and Elisabeth Kosters wrote a year-end report to IUGS for CFES, as affiliate. ABS wrote a year-end report to IUGS as the head of CNC IUGS, outlining CFES achievements. Feedback was positive. ABS wrote a year-end report to IGCP as the head of CNC IGCP, outlining our achievements. All reports were sent to CFES members. IGCP celebrated its 40 th anniversary in Paris (February 2012)

More updates… ABS approached four Canadian scientists that are part of IGCP projects (leaders or co- leaders to help fund student travel to conferences ($500.). ABS received acknowledgement from ¾ of the scientists, but no further steps to request funding. Therefore, $2000 not spent. ABS was included as member of IGC2020 bid committee and Geoparks committee. The new international director will likely fill those shoes…for Geoparks. ABS stepped down from the Partnership Group for Science and Engineering (PAGSE) and was replaced by Chris Burn (Carleton U.) ABS (via E. Kosters) updated the CFES website regularly with upcoming events and/or IUGS bulletins. Two nominations were forwarded to for a new scientific board at IGCP. Brian Menounos (UNBC) and Jacques Locat (U. Laval) were elected. They have not received official correspondence, just ABS. Still waiting… Peter Bobrowsky was nominated as part of the IUGS nominating committee and it was confirmed in Brisbane. IGC2020 bid led by B Mercer and B. Stiebel…refer to summary reports

Upcoming events Year end reports to NRC, IUGS (as affiliate), and IGCP will be required…usually around December. ABS can help the new Int. Director.
