22 21 The Three gorges project The Three Gorges Project is the largest water conservation project in the world, located on the Yangtze River in Hubei province, central China. The project is aimed at improving flood control, producing electricity, and improving navigability on the river. The project is scheduled for completion in 2009, 17 years after its launch.

23 22 China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation Three Gorges Power Plant, the largest hydro plant in the world with 18,900 MW (27x700MW). The first batch of units have already been commissioned Other associated projects: Gezhouba Power Plant 2,715MW. New construction projects (Xiangjiaba 6,000 MW, Xiluodu 12,600MW, Wudongde 7,400MW and Baihetan 12,500MW). Total – 60,115 MW

27 26 The ROS project The Resource Optimization at Statnett (ROS) project was launched in 1998 Access to relevant and accurate data From a common source Available to all parties Single entry of data Improve business processes (adoption of best business practices) Automation and standardization of activities and processes Replace legacy systems (financials) and implement project/maintenance management systems

28 27 Background: Asset investments represent major cost Major investments done in data capture/conversion Problems with consistency of many data bases Potential to extend use for more than engineering Statnett benefits Coordination of Operation – Maintenance Asset information and real-time status Work orders and their status Common navigation to information Common use of data, e.g. current limits for transformers Reporting of costs for bottle-necks Common data engineering Improving LCC – Life Cycle Cost Supporting state-controlled maintenance based on R2CM – Risk & Reliability Centered Maintenance Statnett, Integration with SCADA
