Bruxelles 17th October 2013 CIS for the WFD and the FD _ Work Programme 'Strengthening the implementation of EU water policy through the second river basin management plans' Working Group on Floods Deliverables: Support to MS, based on information exchange, in the implementation of the Floods Directive through the first cycle, including the production of flood maps (2013) and FRMPs (2015), trans boundary cooperation and coordination with the WFD RBMPs and with MSFD. Agreed reporting schema (end 2013) and tools (2013 – 2015) for the implementation of the requirements for flood mapping and the FRMPs under the Directive. Resource document on the links between the WFD and FD (draft end 2013 for review by SCG and consultation with other CIS Groups) Links with, and input to, other flood-related activities, including the CIS SPI, research, climate change, civil protection and disaster risk reduction and resilience activities. 3 DECISION REQUIRED ON THE WG F NEEDS FOR RESEARCH&INNOVATION
14th meeting of Working Group F on Floods Bruxelles 17th October 2013 Action required : Input into other CIS and EU-Level activities, including Research and the CIS SPI Concerning SPI activity in the new CIS work programme, it has been decided by the Water Directors that there will be a SPI activity but the form it will take depends upon what the CIS WGs express as for a need for SPI. In other terms, all the WGs have been invited to discuss in their next meetings on what they need from SPI and what kind of SPI activity they need to fulfill their mandate. DECISION REQUIRED ON THE WG F NEEDS FOR RESEARCH&INNOVATION The full CIS-SPI activity report and the report of the 3rd SPI event that took place in November 2012 are currently under publication and they will soon be distributed. Bruxelles 17th October 2013 WATER JPI will play a critical role in the European Research Area (ERA) and in the new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation: Horizon 2020. Horizon 2020 is the main RDI funding programme in Europe, using a seven year programming period ( ). It aims to build a European economy based on knowledge and innovation whilst contributing to sustainable development. The Water JPI fits Horizon 2020 priorities. Horizon 2020 instruments may support the activities of the Water JPI. SRIA 0.5 Horizon 2020 is a European programme, whilst the Water JPI is an intergovernmental initiative. In addition, the Water JPI will be a major player in the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on Water. The EIP is based on private-public participation. It aims at stimulating creative and innovative solutions to tackle water challenges. It is based on bringing together actors from RDI, water users and water utilities. Bruxelles 17th October 2013 The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Climate-KIC has created a “Land and Water management and Engineering for Adaptation platform” (LWEA). This European network of innovators is addressing the challenge of global climate change. The network is composed of companies, academic institutions and the public sector, with funding from the private and academic sector as well as from an EC grant through the EIT. Bruxelles 17th October 2013 The EIP Water aims to speed up development of water innovation contribute to sustainable growth and employment stimulate uptake of water innovations by market and society EIP Water priorities Water innovations with high impact Our five thematic priorities focus on the "what" Our three cross-cutting priorities focus on the "how" 1st Action Group call finalized nine selected Action Groups Over 100 partner organizations from more than 20 countries involved First results to be presented at the EIP Water Conference on 21 November 2013 The EIP Water will facilitate co-generation of innovations for sustainable growth promote policy changes towards improved innovation transfer develop a multi-stakeholder water innovation network In core priority FLOOD AND DROUGHT RISK MANAGEMENT one action group selected on “Smart Pricing and Drought Insurance Schemes in Mediterranean Countries” Further Calls for Commitment will be open on a regular basis (bi-annually) Giuseppina Monacelli Italian National Institute for Environmental Research and Protection
