7 3. Current Calls for Proposals: The CLIENT II Initiative
The BMBF funding initiative „International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovation“ aims to support international innovation partnerships in the areas of climate, environment and energy supports the knowledge triangle for innovation by funding joint RD&I projects carried out by universities, research institutions and industry/SME´s involves other stakeholders involved in the implementation of project results.

8 3. CLIENT II - Thematic Focus
Sustainable technologies and services in the following focal areas relevant for Central Asia/ Uzbekistan: Resource efficiency and sustainable resource technologies Water management Climate protection / energy efficiency Adaptation to climate change Land management Sustainable energy systems Natural hazards Interdisciplinary collaborative projects which focus on several of the focal areas above and their interfaces are expressly welcome. 11 4.1 BMBF‘s Multilateral Engagement for Central Asia
EU Central Asia Strategy initiated under German EU Presidency 2007 EU Framework Programmes FP 7: 3 International Cooperation Network Projects: IncoNET Eastern Europe and CA, IncoNET CA South Caucasus, IncoNET CA The partnership between the countries of the European Union and Eastern Europe/Central Asia (EECA) is of utmost importance for the political, economic and social development of both regions. Linking the scientific potential and resources has a huge impact on economic growth, social prosperity and welfare as well as public stability. The EU and EECA countries have significant potentials both in terms of the strong academic community and of worldwide leading S&T institutes in a variety of scientific disciplines. In order to make optimum use of each others academic strengths, to share respective resources and to prepare the ground for a joint transfer of academic results to national, regional and worldwide markets there is a strong bi-regional interest in enhancing S&T cooperation. Although the S&T cooperation between the EU Member States, Associated Countries and the EECA partner countries is quite developed, there is still much room for its further development addressing each others priorities as well as global challenges and building on national, bilateral and Community instruments. The IncoNet EECA project aimed to facilitate a coordination of S&T policies building on common interest and aiming at mutual benefit in order to strengthen the cooperation between EU and EECA.

12 4.2 Cooperation Possibilities with German Partners within Multilateral Initiatives
H2020 is the EU’s R&I Programme (2014 – 2010), open also for Uzbek participants, who can be fully financed. Cooperation in projects with German partners possible. EUREKA is an European intergovernmental network, enhancing the competitiveness of participating countries through developing cooperation between the partner countries’ SME’s, industry, research centers and universities for industrial innovation.
