5 Fall Term: WLU courses only Winter Term: Nipissing courses only 6 weeks of NU courses - January 5 - February 13, 2015 Practicum blocks – February 17 – April 29, 2015 Intensive study period- 3 NU courses (24 hours each course = 2 classes per week/course) Professional Development workshops (Fridays) Plan to be on site for the six weeks! Year 5 Structure

6 Course Registration Registration Opens: June 2, 2014 at 12 noon Student responsibility to ensure registration includes all required courses. Science Health and Physical Education Visual Arts Observation & Practice Teaching Class capacities are firm and will not be adjusted. Register early!

7 Practicum Why is Year 5 so important? Select an Ontario school board for final block placements Select one school board only for both blocks Teachable subject for JI secondary school placements Special Interest placements eg. Special Education, Native schools, Schools for the Deaf Blind etc. ANNUAL Practicum Survey Surveys will be released: April 2014 – check your NU email!

8 Practicum ANNUAL Police Vulnerable Sector Check School Boards require Teacher Candidates placed in Ontario schools to complete a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to having direct contact with students. Failure to provide this documentation to the Practicum Office three weeks prior to the commencement of Block 1 will result in the cancellation of practicum for the current academic year. Toronto District School Board and Peel DSB require additional steps in this process, further info to follow PVSC due date is : January 23, 2015

9 Detailed Schedule (WI Term) Six-week block of classes 2 practicum blocks Block 1: February 17 – March 13, 2015 March Break – March 16 – March 20 Turn Around Week – March 23 - 27 Block 2: March 30 – April 29, 2015 Turn Around Week may be used to make up missed practicum days due to illness during the first practicum block, following prior arrangement with, and approval from the practicum office. It is also designed to all time to meet the block 2 Associate Teacher.

10 Professional Fridays All graduating students are expected to attend Professional Fridays. A variety of information sessions and professional development workshops will be held each week Please mark the following Fridays on your calendar. Workshops will be held from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
