1 Q3 – Language Analysis L.O. To revise language features.
To develop ability to analyse language effectively in non-fiction texts.

2 Starter – Find your language partner
On the way in, you were given either a language technique or an example. Find your partner and sit down next to each other.

3 Alliteration Never knowing navy numbers makes you naughty. Triplet Pride, dignity and integrity. Rhetorical question Wouldn’t you like to join today? Emotive language Saving those who are most vulnerable. Personal pronouns We need you to help us. Hyperbole If you don’t join, millions of people will die. Adjectives Sapphire - blue sea and fresh, linen-white clouds Adverbs Sailors bravely fight the enemy. Repetition Friendships made here are for life. You will have friends forever. Formal language It is imperative that you sign up immediately. Informal language Give us a call and we can chat though the options. Sarcasm You know your friends would love to see you in a sailor suit.

5 Now read this leaflet. As we read, highlight any language features that you can find. What is the overall effect of the leaflet? How has the writer used language?
