Ms. Pratt’s Class Francis Bradley Middle School Year Language Arts Contact Information: Website: Hours: M-F 7:30 AM-7:00 PM; s received after 7PM and on the weekend will be returned the following weekday. Mrs. Pratt’s Rules Follow directions; both verbal and written. Raise your hand for permission to speak. Sharpen pencil and gather materials needed before class starts during the warm-up. Take responsibility for your decisions in class and in the hallway. Respect yourself and your classmates.     Class Expectations Be in seat when tardy bell rings. Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. Use restroom during passing breaks. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. Do not talk when others are talking Course Description Welcome to 7th grade Language Arts. Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills is not only important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and helping you to be successful in what ever you’re called to do with your life. Needless to say, the quality of life you experience now thorough adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write and communicate with others. What are the consequences if I don’t follow class rules? 1. Warning 2. Lunch Detention 3. Referral to Administration What should I do for the first 20 minutes of class? Sharpen pencil(s) your homework (if there was any) Complete warm-up Complete daily in-class 10 minutes of silent reading Do I have to read outside of class? Yes, you are required to read 10 nights out of 14 nights/(2 weeks) for 20 minutes each night. Ms. Pratt’s Class Francis Bradley Middle School Year Grade Scale What do I need to know about homework? A % B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 59 and below Student Responsibility: Write your homework in your agenda before you leave class. Your Homework credit sheet (HCS) is how your homework will be tracked for a grade. At the end of the quarter, your HCS will be collected for a cumulative grade. I encourage you and your parents to keep up with your assignments on PowerSchool and frequently check my website: Website: Teacher Responsibility: I will send out weekly s to your parents that will outline what’s due that week as well as upcoming assignments. What happens if my assignment is late? There is a 10 point deduction every day an assignment is late If an assingment is turned in after 5 school days, then the maximum score that can be recieved is 50/F. (If a student is caught plagarizing, then the grade will be an automatic 0). Grade Breakdown Formal: 65% Tests Projects Extended Writing Essays Informal: 35% Quizzes (counts 3x) Homework Credit Sheet (counts 2x) Nightly Reading In-class activities How will I check my grades? Frequently visiting PowerSchool is a great tool to keep track of grades. Grades are posted every Monday in the classroom by student ID number so you can track your grade and missing assignments. What do I do if I am absent? If you are absent, please check the MAKE-UP work cabinet. It’s organized by first name. If your assignments are not in the absent bin, please ask me what you missed. How will I organize and keep up with my work? Daily Supplies You will need a college ruled spiral notebook as well as a 2-pocket folder. Your pages will be numbered: odd numbers on the left; even numbers on the right. Left notebook pages are for warm-ups (unless otherwise instructed). Right side notebook pages are for notes, assignments and class activities (unless otherwise instructed). At the end of each quarter, you will have a notebook quiz. The master copy (Ms. Pratt’s copy) of the notebook is kept at the front of the class by the door in the blue basket.
