Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, comments or concerns regarding your child. Feel free to write me a note or me. If the message is not urgent, is the most efficient form of contact. I will return your message as soon as possible. Call the school if it is urgent. Also, be sure to check your child’s Thursday Folder each week for important papers, graded work, events and announcements. Please be sure to sign and return the folder every Friday. Your signature indicates you have read the information included in the folder. Your support at home is appreciated.. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere and environment that is conductive for quality teaching and learning where each child is valued for his/her unique attributes and is an active member of our classroom community. My name has changed from last year. Homework This year we will be doing a homework menu. Each month they will receive a menu. They will have to complete 2 reading and 2 math assignments for the week. The assignments for the week are due each Friday. For each additional assignment your child completes they will be given an extra dollar to buy something from the classroom store. Other homework will include studying for Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health or Spelling Tests. Homework is an important way to be involved in your child’s learning. Please support your child in doing the work but don’t do it for them. You can remind your child where or how to find the answer but try not to jump in and give the answer. Newsletters Newsletters will be sent home which will include important information about our classroom. It will also include topics to be covered in all subject areas and upcoming tests. Please look for these newsletters in the Thursday Folders each week. Lunch Lunch is from 11:55-12:25 If you plan to eat lunch with your child at any time this year please give the office a call before the day to let them know. Specials Schedule Specials begin at 12:30-1:15 Monday- P.E. Tuesday- Music Wednesday- Art Thursday – Library Friday-P.E., Music, Art, Library (rotates every 9 weeks in that order. A daily class schedule will be posted on my webpage on Driswood’s website. We will have guidance once a month. The day varies. Our guidance counselor is Mrs. Poteet and she is available to you or your child if there are any issues. Drop-off and Pick Up Breakfast 8:30-8:45. The school day starts promptly at 8:45 a.m. If you are driving your child to school, please make sure he/she is in school before 8:45 a.m. Children being picked up by parents or guardians will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m.. If your child usually takes the bus home and you plan to pick your child up at school; please send a note to school with your child. Volunteers Anyone who is interested in lending a hand or sharing a special talent, story, organizing classroom parties, helping during computer time, or supervising a project is welcome to do so. We have many opportunities to help out at home or in school. Look for information about volunteering in future mailings. More Important Information Rewards/Behavior Students will be given money which will be given every Friday for things like homework, following class rules, being a bucket filler, and working hard. Money can also be taken away. We also do OUTSTANDING OWLS AND RED REMINDERS. See school handbook for information. My expectation regarding behavior is treat others the way you want to be treated. Computers Please send in headphones for your child if possible. They will be kept in a plastic bag and students will use them when working with computers in the classroom. Toys and Cards Please do not allow your child to bring toys or cards to school. They are easily lost or broken. Grades Your child will be receiving number grades this year. Also, grades will be online. You will be getting user names and passwords shortly in order to log in to check how your child is doing. 90-100%=A O=outstanding 80-89%=B S=Satisfactory 70-79%=C N=Needs Improvement 60-69%=D U=Unsatisfactory 59% and lower=F
