Welcome parents!

2 Welcome to Second Grade!
The second grade teachers are Mrs. Berkner Mrs. Carroll Dr. Evans Ms. Holston

3 EXPECTATIONS Respectful/ On-Task Behavior
Preparedness (mentally, physically, and emotionally) Pencil and paper Homework, homework, homework!!! Signed papers Positive Attitudes Students taking responsibility for their behavior and choices

4 ELA Goals Read at level “M” or higher
Answer questions about a text (who, what, when where, why) Identify the Author’s Purpose Write using complete sentences Understand and identify the main idea of a text. Compose narrative, informational, opinion, and response to literature writing pieces Compare and contrast two texts Answer questions using text evidence

5 Math Goals Add and subtract within 100 Skip count by 5’s, 10’s, 100’s
Read and write numbers within 1,000 Measure using inches, feet, centimeters, and meters Solve word problems using UPS Using graphs Using money

6 Alexander II Handbook Please make sure that you’ve read and reviewed it with your children Please return the last page signed Let’s work together!

7 Homework Assigned daily (Monday-Thursday)
Check and sign your child’s agenda nightly Return Wednesday folders

8 Classroom Behavior Each class will utilize a SOCIAL CONTRACT. This will be tied to Classroom Dojo. Dojo will be utilized mainly for communication.

9 How to Be Successful Attend class daily and on time (September is Attendance Awareness Month) Complete all homework and assignments (We only want quality work!) Take personal RESPONSIBILITY Stay on task Ask questions if you don’t understand!! Earn a “C” or higher in all subjects READ! READ! READ! Reading is the best method to increase Lexile Levels.

10 How You Can Help Your Child Become a Proficient Reader
Take your child to a local library or bookstore Ask your students what they read and learned after school EVERY DAY! Ask them questions about what they’re learning in class

11 Parent Involvement PTA (joining is required!!)
Volunteer (a minimum of 4 hours per quarter)!! Volunteer hours have to be recorded on the PTA page. Make sure we have up-to-date contact information (phone numbers and addresses)
