2 Classroom Procedures Daily behavior is on the calendar
O = Outstanding GW = Great Work G = Good Job R = Ready to Learn Please initial calendar daily so that I know you have seen your child’s behavior and have checked their homework Students will check (✓) their homework assignments daily

3 Homework Homework assignments are on the calendar for each day
Keep homework simple and enjoyable! READ for 15 min. every night!! Decodable books – Should be read three different times and kept at home in a safe place for future reading

4 Beat the Basics Skip counting Math fact patterns
Goal is 30 problems in 2 minutes – addition and subtraction

5 Math MyMath Textbook – aligned to common core Nightly math homework

6 Reading START Weekly story with vocabulary words
Phonics, sight words, and literature Weekly take-home book for fluency and vocabulary practice

7 Spelling Weekly list in Responsibility Folder
Practice at home and school Test on Friday

8 English/Grammar Students will be learning about nouns, verbs, adjectives, capital letters, punctuation, complete sentences, and much more.

9 Writing Correct formation of letters BME (Beginning, Middle, End)
Capitalization and Punctuation Invented spelling is great!

10 Handwriting Each student is expected to do his/her best handwriting on all classwork and homework.

11 Grading Papers are sent home in AVID notebook as they are graded
Homework is used for practice Not all papers are graded Blanks on the report card mean the subject was not emphasized that quarter

12 AVID Becoming a district-wide program Focuses on: Organization
Responsibility Note-taking Alignment among grade levels for smooth transitions

13 1st grade Cougar Zone Goals:
Fluency with kinder and 1st grade sight words By first of the year, reading 47 WPM By May, reading 82 WPM Retell: beginning, middle, and end Completing 30 addition/subtraction problems within 10 in 2 minutes Writing in complete sentences Writing paragraphs with a beginning, middle, and end

14 Attendance Attendance is extremely important
Communicate with student what it means to be sick Research shows attendance is vital to success in the classroom School starts at 8:20 and ends at 2:50 Wednesday, Early Release school ends at 1:50 Dismissal policies Walkers and Car kids teachers must see parent before your child is dismissed Bus students will be monitored Any changes in how your child gets home need to be called in to the office

15 Remember, having your child read every night is a WONDERFUL thing!
