4 Where does photosynthesis occur?
This occurs in two stages in the chloroplast of a plant cell. What part of the plant absorbs the sun’s energy? Chlorophyll captures sunlight.

5 What organisms conduct photosynthesis?
Producers (autotrophs) organisms that get their energy directly from the sun. They make their own food. All plants are producers. Some Bacteria, Fungi and protozoa are producers.

6 How do plants make their own food?
By Photosynthesis Chemical reaction where green plants use water & carbon dioxide to store the sun’s energy in glucose Light energy is transformed into Chemical Energy that is then stored in the chemical bonds of glucose which is a carbohydrate.

7 WHY IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS SO IMPORTANT?
PHOTOSYNTHESIS is one of the most important biological process on earth! · Provides the oxygen (O2) we breathe · Consumes extra Carbon Dioxide CO2 · Makes Plant Food · Gives US food!

8 Cellular Respiration

Oxygen Produces water + C6H12O6 6CO2 + 6H2 O 6O2

10 Who needs cellular respiration?
Cellular Respiration is how cells convert glucose into energy to survive. **All living things carry out respiration. Who needs cellular respiration? Cellular respiration is critical for the survival of most organisms

11 Overview of Cellular Respiration
·The chemical energy in food molecules CANNOT be used directly by the cell. ·Energy from food must be converted to the an energy source that cells can use ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) ! ATP

12 Where does Cellular Respiration occur?
The mitochondria

13 Cellular Respiration ·Cellular respiration is the how cells convert food energy into ATP. It is the process of breaking down sugar to release stored energy ·Respiration occurs continuously in all cells of all organisms (without it, the organism would DIE!)

14 Cellular Respiration Both plants and animals use cellular respiration as a means of converting stored energy in sugar into a chemical that individual cells can use. Plants first create a simple sugar through photosynthesis. Individual cells then break down that sugar through cellular respiration.

15 One can not occur without the other
