3 Reasons for transitioning into our new classes now:
To further reduce any anxieties that the children may have, after the summer holiday break, as they will fully know their new teacher, LSA and new learning environment. To ensure all of the children make an even stronger start in September, after a long summer holiday break. To further improve progress that the children make, by the end of the Autumn Term and beyond. ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

5 LPPA ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
Leading Parent Partnership Award School has achieved the LPPA award There is an LPPA Working Party Opportunity to give feedback at each event where parents/carers are involved Feedback is always carefully listened to and appropriate changes / improvements made where necessary ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

6 Reading Please sign reading records every time your child has read (this is most beneficial to your child when done daily for 10 minutes). As a minimum, we expect diaries to have been signed by a parent / carer three times a week Every Friday we will check reading records for reading and parent/carer signatures and sign them ourselves Learning key words and asking questions about the books that they are reading, will help children to make good progress in reading ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

7 Spelling Key Words or spellings will be sent out each week, to be learned at home. Children will be tested every Friday and the test mark written in their diaries in a traffic light colour, so you can see your child’s progress in spelling (green = above expectation; yellow = meeting expectation; red = below expectation). Getting a yellow or green score is part of the Always Award. If your child is ‘red’, it will be very difficult for them to catch up and this could lead to below expected progress in reading and writing. Your child will also need to get yellow or green to get their always award for homework. ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

8 Grammar Hammer ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
There is now a national grammar test for Y2 and Y6 children Children are taught grammar skills every week and must use the correct grammar Every two weeks, children are tested on using a ‘Grammar Hammer’ test. Their progress is tracked and will be reported fortnightly to you in the children’s diaries, using a traffic light colour (green = above expectation; yellow = meeting expectation; red = below expectation) If your child is ‘red’, it will be very difficult for them to catch up and this could lead to below expected progress in reading and writing ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

9 Writing – Year 2-Year 6 ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
They learn about different text types and study both fiction and non fiction texts. To meet the expected standard, children must write in joined up handwriting, using the correct spelling and grammar. Encourage your child to write at every opportunity at home, using the correct spelling, punctuation and grammar, as this will help them to progress further. ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

10 Maths ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
Real life problem solving across the curriculum Reasoning (where children explain how they know an answer and how they’ve worked it out) Presentation of work To know by heart all the: Y1 = number bonds to 10 and 20 (e.g 7+3=10, 6+4=10) (17+3=10, 16+4=10) Y2 = 2, 5, 10, 3 and 4 times tables Y4 = 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 times tables There is daily practise of number bonds and times tables across the school ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

11 Targets Your child will have writing and maths targets in the front of their books, so they know what they need to focus on next Please do not hesitate to come in and ask for any advice or extra work to help your child achieve their targets ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

12 Children’s responsibilities
To work to the best of their abilities and allow others to do the same To treat others with respect To follow the instructions of all the staff in school To take care of property that belongs to you, others and the school To co-operate with other children and adults ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

13 Homework ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
Maths and English homework will be given weekly, on a Friday Homework must be handed in by 9.00 am the following Wednesday Weekly Spellings, given every Friday Times table practise Daily reading (please sign the diary daily) ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

14 Diaries ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
Parents/carers must sign the front page of the diary during the first week in their new class Each child’s diary should be in school every day (this is part of the ALWAYS AWARD) Please sign the diary every time your child reads (a minimum of 3 times a week is required for the ALWAYS AWARD) Diaries should be checked every Friday to see spelling score and grammar score (fortnightly) Diaries should be put open on the desk in the classroom as your child comes into school, so they can be checked Parents/carers can write notes to the teacher in the diary ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

15 Physical Education Please have kits available each day in school for the whole of the term, as P.E. days can change No football kits please Plain white t-shirt / or blue and white one with the school logo on Plain black/blue shorts Plain black, slip on pumps Plain tracksuit in colder weather ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

16 Healthy Minds ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
A full fresh water bottle should be brought into school each day Mid-morning toast (10p per day) Healthy lunchboxes and school meals Free fruit each afternoon in KS1 KS1 have free school meal or can have a free school pack lunch ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

17 Behaviour and Discipline
Positive Discipline Policy Superstar, Sunshine, Rainbow, Cloud Rewards Merits, Lead Learner of the Week Award, School Pride Award Lunchtime Behaviour Award Headteacher’s Award sticker, Deputy Headteacher’s Value Award sticker, Value Champion of the Week Award ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

18 Always Award ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
This is an award for children who: Always have 96% or better attendance and punctuality (no more than 4% late marks). Always wear the correct uniform and have the correct P.E. kit. Read at least three times each week and have the diary signed each time the child has read. Complete homework on time each week, to the expected standard. This includes learning spellings that are sent home for homework. Children must get a yellow or green score in their spelling test (10-15) AND complete their homework on time to the expected standard to receive their Always Award point for homework. Always follow the Children’s Responsibilities and not be placed on the ‘Cloud’ or be put on a detention. ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

19 Golden Always Award ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
At the end of each half term, your child will be sent homework for over the holidays. If the homework is sent back on time and completed to the expected standard, your child will be awarded a Golden Always Award Point. If your child earns all of the Golden Always Award Points on offer throughout the year, they will earn their ‘Golden Always Award’. This is an extra-special badge, which will of course be gold and will be presented to your child during the Summer Term of 2018. To earn the ‘Golden Always Award 2018’, you must have also earned the ‘Always Award 2018’. The winners of the ‘Golden Always Award 2018’ will receive an extra-special treat, as they will have shown such ambition and pride over the school year, both during term time and during the school holidays. We hope all our children achieve both awards. ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

20 Out Of School Club ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’
Breakfast and after school club Fun time Friday Child Care Vouchers are accepted Wide range of planned, fun activities including sports sessions with trained sports coaches from Premier Sports Holiday Club ‘Enjoy each day as we learn along the way’

We are always happy to meet with our parents to discuss your child If you have a question/concern, please do make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher, so we can sit down with you to discuss the matter, as it is very difficult to discuss matters as we are letting the children into or out of school Please see our school website, it is always up to date with the latest information, plus information on the curriculum We now have a Facebook page for our Nursery!
