3 1. what is an International Baccalaureate school ?
An International Baccalaureate (IB) school offers high quality programs of international education. There are 4 IB programs: Diploma Program, Career Related Certificate, Middle Years Program and Primary Years Program (DP, MYP and PYP), running in schools for different student age groups. The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners, who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. 13 4. what does the taught curriculum look like ?
APPROACHES TO TEACHING: CONSTRUCTIVISM Constructivism is a self directed, active process of moving from existing knowledge to a new place by constructing meaning. We pre test to find out existing knowledge INQUIRY Inquiry is the learning process where students use taught skills to explore the world around them. It is the teacher’s role to teach the necessary skills and to guide students through the learning process 4. what does the taught curriculum look like ? 14 5 WHAT YOU WILL SEE AND HEAR?
You will hear about our units of inquiry, a distinguishing feature of the PYP. Schools plan and implement a set of these units each year at each grade level. Collectively, these units are called the School’s Programme of Inquiry. You can see this displayed in the foyer. It includes social studies, geography, history, the arts and sciences. Maths and language are connected where possible, making learning more realistic and relevant.
