2 The Present Perfect Simple

3 Her bedroom was green. Now it is yellow. She has painted her bedroom
Her bedroom was green. Now it is yellow. She has painted her bedroom. Has painted is the Present Perfect Simple. Here, the important thing is that something has been finished. Has painted is a completed action. We are interested in the result of the activity (the painted bedroom), not the activity itself.

4 The Form Subject + Have/ Has + Past Participle (V3)+...
E. G. (1): I have done my homework. E. G. (2): He has done his homework.

5 Usages: 1. To describe a finished action in a time period that continuous up to now. Example: I’ve repaired the washing machine this morning.

6 Usages: 2. To describe experiences in our lives. E. G. 1: Zaid has climbed Mount Everest. E. G. 2: We have been to Turkey four times.

7 Usages: 3. To talk about an action that happened in the past without showing the time. E. G. 1: I have called you many time. Why haven’t you answered? E. G. 2: We have looked for the car.

8 Usages: 4. To show a state that started in the past and is still continuing. (I focus on the results, not the duration) E. G. 1: I have lived in Jordan since E. G. 2: Hamza has joined the club for 3 years.

9 All Usages: 1. To describe a finished action in a time period that continuous up to now. 2. To describe experiences in our lives. 3. To talk about an action that happened in the past without showing the time. 4. To show a state that started in the past and is still continuing. (I focus on the results, not the duration)

10 Key Words Key words may help you sometimes, but be careful! The meaning of the sentence is always the most important. Just Already today recently lately Yet Ever Never until now This + (time) So far the past few+ (time)

16 The Present Perfect Continuous

17 There is paint on Kate’s clothes.
She has been painting her bedroom. Has been painting is the Present Perfect Continuous. We are thinking of the activity. It does not matter whether it has been finished or not. In this example, the activity (painting the bedroom) has not been finished.

E. G. (1): My hands are very dirty. I’ve been repairing my bike. E. G. 2: Joe has been eating too much recently. He should eat less.

19 Usages: To describe an action that started in the past and still continuing. E. G. 1: Johnathan has been telling us about global warming. E.G. 2: Dave has been playing tennis all day.

20 Usages: 2. To talk about the reason of something in the present. E. G. 1: A: Look at your hands! They’re so filthy! B: I know. I’ve been painting the living room.

21 All Usages: 1. To describe an action that started in the past and still continuing. 2. To talk about the reason of something in the present. Note that if the sentence focuses on the duration (how long) we always use the Present Perfect Continuous.

23 BE Careful! Note that there are 2 keywords that are used in both tenses. For Since Look at the examples: Your Course Book – Page No. 138 Present Perfect Simple: I have had this computer for about a year. I haven't seen Julia since September. Present Perfect Continuous: You have been waiting here for two hours. Have you been waiting here for two hours?
