1 Interactive Science Notebook

2 What is the purpose for Interactive Notebooks?
Take class notes from the teacher, textbooks, and other resources. Make sense of the notes & readings in your own way. Organize class information in a usable way. Demonstrate that learning is taking place.

3 Interactive Science Notebook Supplies
You will need: Composition notebook Pencil Pencil sharpener Colored pencils Ruler Pocket folder with prongs

4 What are Interactive Notes?
Interactive notes help you record, organize, and process (think about) new information. It is divided into “left-side” and “right-side” pages.

5 Left side / Right side Left side “output” pages:
Pages are numbered even (2,4,6,8,etc.) Reorganize new information in creative ways Student opinions/ feelings Explore new ideas Right side “input” pages: Pages are numbered odd (1,3,5,7,etc.) Class notes Discussion notes Reading notes Any teacher given information

Required information

7 Left Side Pages Express what the notes mean to you and create ways to remember them: Drawings Diagrams Graphic organizers (webs, T-charts, Venn diagrams, etc.) Poetry/ rap Colors Cartoons/ comic Thoughts/ opinions Abbreviations New questions

8 How should I set it up? Cover: Name, class, title, decorated
Table of Contents: Numbered A-N in upper corner of each page

9 How do I make a cover? Get a 4 x 6 index card.
Decorate it as you like, with your first and last name, class and title for notebook. Glue it down to the front of the composition notebook.

10 Where do I put the Table of Contents?
Start the T.O.C. on the very first page Write Table of Contents on the top line Letter it A in the upper right corner Letter the next left page B in the upper left corner Continue this until you reach the letter F (left page) Using a ruler, divide each T.O.C. page in half

11 What goes on Page 1? Page 1 is the first right page after the Table of Contents. This is the Author’s Page: Write Author’s Page on the top line Draw or paste a small picture of yourself Write about your age, height, favorites, family, pets, hobbies, etc. Use pictures and words; decorate Use the entire page

12 What do I do next? The Author’s Page is page 1 (right side)
Number the next page 2 (left) Continue numbering all of your pages All right pages should be odd numbers All left pages should be even numbers TAKE YOUR TIME! Use pencil.

13 What is the pocket folder for?
All worksheets/handouts will be kept in the folder. Hole punch each sheet and put them in order by date inside the prongs Use notebook paper to make a Table of Contents for the folder Make a folder cover with name, class, and title Covers will change after each unit
