Review Course Selection Guide -- full guide with descriptions is available on-line: Discuss with teachers and parents Signatures on Course Selection Sheet between now and February 9 Forms collected in Social Studies class on Friday, February 10th! We will meet individually as needed to discuss your choices (February-late April)

Selection Cards must have proper signatures -- teachers & parents Over-subscribe if you’re not sure Pay attention to prerequisites Select alternatives for conflicts Choose classes based on your post-high school direction!

Weight: 1 – Preparation for the world of work Tech Prep Weight: 2 – Preparation for Technical Schools/2 year colleges College Prep Weight: 3 – Preparation for 4-year college

Honors Weight: 4 – Accelerated preparation for 4- year college ** Must have a 93% average at the end of the year in CP course to take the honors level as an 11th grader… or if already in an Honors course, you must have an 80% in that subject to continue in Honors Advanced Placement Weight: 5 – Follows a prescribed course of study published by the College Board

8 period day Required courses: English 11 (Career Prep, Tech Prep, CP, AP) Chemistry (CP or Honors) OR Physical Science (TP) *If Physical Science then no more Science is required for student World History (Career Prep, Tech Prep, CP, AP) If AP, then two.5 electives or an AP Social Studies class will be offered in 12th grade If CRP, TP or CP, then in 12th grade student will take .5 credit in Modern World History and .5 Social Studies elective Math (see chart) Careers & Personal Finance Health PE Total 5.5

12 Math Sequences AP Statistics is an elective math course that can occur after Algebra 2 If a student takes AP Calc, then Advanced Math Topics will also be available in the senior year *A student who does not pass the Keystone Algebra exam after Algebra I will likely take Integrated Algebra II the following year.

15 Keystone Exams Still required for graduation
Algebra IB or Algebra 1 – exam in May Biology and English – exam in May Can take more than once if don’t pass Prep and remediation courses No finals in Biology and English this year!

16 Driver’s Education Still offered online and taken independently outside of school in 10th grade District will pay $50 fee Need this course plus in-car training (through private company) to get discount on car insurance

Course Changes Anytime between now and August… Contact me to do so Schedules mailed home around August 7, 2017 Parent/ Student initiated elective and level changes during summer months until August 17, 2017

18 POLICY FOR SCHEDULE CHANGES
August 18, 2017 – Last day for student-initiated schedule changes. Summer changes do not include teacher or lunch reassignments. Once the school year begins: Students will remain in classes as scheduled for the first two weeks of school.  No schedule changes will be made. In weeks 3 and 4 of school, schedule changes are permitted for academic misplacements (with teacher and parent approval) AND elective changes can be made (from one elective to another – also with parental approval) From week 4 of school through week 7, the ONLY types of changes will be for academic misplacements (with teacher and parent approval). After week 7, no schedule changes will be made unless they are approved by a principal. For second semester classes, students will only be able to make a change up until the second week of the course (week 2 of the 3rd MP)

19 Other Considerations Grade Point Average (GPA) and Class Rank are cumulative Think about your goals, your abilities and your interests… consider the planning that we have (or will) talk about in our meetings We want to prepare you for the world beyond Lower Dauphin -- please choose wisely!
