3 L’impératif When you tell someone to do something, you use the command form of the verb – this is the imperative (impératif)

4 Giving orders How do you give commands or directions in English?
Eat your vegetables. Listen to the directions. Let’s go shopping at the mall. What are the usual parts of sentences? Subject Verb Object So what’s missing? Is it really missing?

5 Giving orders Eat your vegetables. Listen to the directions.
(tu) Mange tes légumes. Listen to the directions. (vous) Écoutez aux directions. Let’s go shopping at the mall. (nous) Faisons du shopping au centre commercial.

6 How to conjugate the verbs?
You can use one of 3 forms in French Tu (informal command) Vous (formal command) Nous (suggestion/advice “let’s…”) Conjugate the verbs normally except don’t write the “tu”, “vous” or “nous”

7 -er verbs Tu danses. Danse! You dance. Dance! Vous dansez. Dansez!
Nous dansons. Dansons! We dance. Let’s dance!

8 -ir verbs Tu finis. Finis! You finish. Finish!
Vous finissez. Finissez! Nous finissons. Finissons! We finish. Let’s finish!

9 -re verbs Tu attends. Attends! You wait. Wait!
Vous attendez. Attendez! Nous attendons. Attendons! We wait. Let’s wait!
