2 MLA style refers to the guidelines put out by the Modern Language Association for writing papers. It specifies how you should write your headings for any type of assignment that asks you to use MLA style, including literature essays.

In the upper left corner, type your name, your instructor’s name, the course number, and today’s date. Your MLA Heading must be four lines, no more, no less. Try to keep the left side lined up: Joseph Johnson Mrs. Kennedy Biology 15 October 2010

1st line: First name and last name; both names capitalized because they are proper nouns. 2nd line: Teacher’s title and name; title is abbreviated, punctuated and capitalized. Your teacher’s name is a proper noun. 3rd line: The name of your subject is also a proper noun, so it is capitalized. 4th line: The date is most commonly written in the day, month, year format.
