1 The Conditional Tense How to form it

2 The Conditional Tense The endings used for the Future Tense are very easy, if you think of them as “The Imperfect Tense” endings. So, they follow the same pattern as the Imperfect Tense – no problems here!

3 The Conditional Tense Look carefully at the endings. Je regardais
Just to remind you – here is regarder in the Imperfect Tense Je regardais Tu regardais Il regardait Elle regardait On regardait Look carefully at the endings. Nous regardions Vous regardiez Ils regardaient Elles regardaient

4 The Conditional Tense The Conditional tense of both -ir & -er verbs are very easy to form; you simply add the endings on the previous slide to the INFINITIVE. Take a look at regarder and then finir on the next two slides.

5 The Conditional Tense of regarder
Je regarderais Tu regarderais Il regarderait Elle regarderait On regarderait Nous regarderions Vous regarderiez Ils regarderaient Elles regarderaient

6 The Conditional Tense of finir
Je finirais Tu finirais Il finirait Elle finirait On finirait Nous finirions Vous finiriez Ils finiraient Elles finiraient

7 The Conditional Tense The Conditional Tense of –re verbs is formed in much the same way, the only difference being that you remove the “e” from the end of the infinitive first. So, the future of répondre, will de formed from répondr, just as if it were an –er or an –ir verb.

8 The Conditional Tense Tense of répondre
Je répondrais Tu répondrais Il répondrait Elle répondrait On répondrait Nous répondrions Vous répondriez Ils répondraient Elles répondraient

9 The Conditional Tense Now try these in the Conditional Tense:-
Jouer - nous + ils Manger – tu + vous Choisir – je + elles Ecrire – il + nous Boire – elles + vous

10 The Conditional Tense There are, of course, some other verbs that do not follow this pattern & they add the endings to specially formed “stems”. However, EVERY verb in the Conditional Tense uses the same endings, even if they begin in a slightly different way.
