1 Kelly Medina Grade 6 Math and Science

2 Welcome Parents! Welcome to 6th grade! I am very excited to be working with you and your child this year. This information is here to help and serve as a guide for you, but feel free to call or me at any time.

3 About Mrs. Medina I graduated from CSUSM where I also received my teaching credential. This is my 10th year here at San Elijo Middle School teaching Math and Science. I am married with 2 children: Kiana: 6 and Diego: 4 3

4 Classroom Rules and Expectations
Be in your seat when the bell rings Bring all materials to class and take them with you when you leave. Respect others and their belongings. No throwing things. Follow directions the first time they are given. Follow School Rules School motto: “I am responsible for myself.” Follow the Golden Eagle Rule: Treat others as I wish to be treated

6 What Goes on in a Day? Student’s come in sit down and should be taking out planner, and homework. Homework answers are usually posted, or I will read aloud answers. Students correct their own work and then are expected to fix/redo problems that they miss (either with me, with their table or on their own) Homework is collected by one student at each group and turned in at the back table. After we go over homework, we do a lesson or activity, then practice. Homework is always written on the homework board (for the entire week).  It is the student’s responsibility to write their assignments down.

7 “I was absent yesterday did I miss anything?”
Students should check homework board and absent folder for missed work. Students should turn in any work into the blue late and absent basket (with absent and the date written on the top) If they miss taking notes I will print a copy and put it in the absent folder. They should see me at passing period, before or after school to go over any questions. Sometimes once everyone is working I can work with them, but often time we need to talk later.

8 Homework Homework may be assigned Monday- Thursday and will be calculated into their overall grade. Homework is a valuable extension from what is taught in class. Student will grade in class, make corrections and ask questions.

9 LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted in both Math and Science for reduced value to ensure fundamental skills are sequentially learned. Late work is accepted with an excused absence for full credit. Students will receive two days for every one day that they are absent to complete and turn in missed work. Teacher will use discretion in emergency/special situations.

10 Citizenship Policy and Criteria
Citizenship is evaluated differently than academic progress. It involves a student’s actions in upholding the school’s responsibility and accountability standards, positive involvement in their learning and living communities, and attitude. Citizenship assesses student participation, leadership / cooperation, willingness to assist others and following school and classroom rules. These rules include but are not limited to just behavior, cell phone violations, excessive gum chewing issues, continually talking in class and/or dress code issues. Please see citizenship criteria document located on my web page. 12
