2 What is a CTSO? A CTSO is a career and technical student organization
10 CTSOs authorized under Perkins Designed as intra-curricular activities for vocational education Note: This is not co-curricular or extra-curricular Missouri is host to FBLA-PBL, DECA, FCCLA, FFA, SkillsUSA, HOSA, and TSA

3 What is FBLA-PBL? FBLA-PBL is Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda FBLA for high school PBL for college (and now graduate studies) Middle Level for 5th-8th grade Professional Division for business, industry, and educators Missouri is home to the second largest state chapter in the Nation Official CTSO of business education Required for approved business programs in Missouri

4 Foundations of FBLA-PBL
Service Devoted to teaching students the value of customer service and the education benefits that come long with volunteering. Education Competitive events that are cross-walked with NBEA and career clusters. Hosts conferences that allow for hands-on learning opportunities. Supplemental Business Achievement Awards program Progress FBLA-PBL trains students to champion career and technical education

5 Integration: Service Planning a Community Service Project for FBLA
Great activity for a Business Management Class Skills learned include: Project management Financial management and budgeting Advertising Target markets and customer outreach Build curriculum around the project, from development to implementation Project tasks are coursework for a grade Can also incorporate Graphic Design and Personal Finance classes

Competitive Events Crosswalked with NBEA and career clusters Range from Accounting to IT to Web Design to Personal Finance Competitive Events available at DLC, SLC, and NLC

Competitive Events Make a competition at your school Provide students with an FBLA Entrepreneurship prompt and real rating sheets Students must present in front of a panel of judges (fellow educators, Chamber, Board) Top scoring team competes at DLC Integrate test scores into your coursework Achieve at least 60% in an FBLA test to receive credit or bonus points Use a topic as a project Have all students in a class follow an FBLA prompt (Web Design, Graphic Design, 3D Animation) for a grade Winning team presents at DLC

Business Achievement Awards Four level program Future, Business, Leader, America Mirrors NBEA standards Program is completely free Worksheets and templates for many activities available online Top 2 levels (Leader & America) recognized at SLC Top 1 level (America) recognized at NLC

Business Achievement Awards Activities include: Future: Write a one page paper on a business career Introduction to Business Class Business: Design a poster encouraging students to join your local FBLA chapter Graphic Design or Desktop Publishing Class Leader: Identify and create a presentation on how businesses compete against each other Business Management Class America: Help prepare a skit about the benefits of saving money and present it to middle school students Personal Finance Class

Governmental Awareness Challenge a business class to understand the affects of government policy and trade on business. LifeSmarts Interactive, quiz bowl and activity based program for consumer and marketplace skills. Sponsored by FBLA-PBL and FCCLA with middle and high school divisions. Students can advance to National Competitions. Stock Market Game Students invest “money” into the stock market and learn about trade and market factors hands on Proven to increase class participation and attendance.
