Good afternoon

Artificial Respiration

Index Introduction Methods of artificial respiration - Mechanical method - Manual method Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) Objective

Introduction Interchange of gases between an organism and the medium in which it lives Also can be defined as act of breathing(inhaling oxygen & exhaling carbondioxide) during which lungs are provided with air.

Methods of artificial respiration Instrumental /Mechanical method:- method when artificial respiration is required for longer period.eg-drinker and shaw tank, mechanical ventilator(ventilator, tracheal incubation, cricothyrotomy, tracheostomy) Manual method:- are also can be called as an emergency method.eg-mouth to mouth breathing, mouth to nose breathing, mouth to mask.

Mechanical methods Drinker method-Air is withdrawn mechanically to produce vaccum- creates '-ve' pressure-expands chest and lead to decrease intrapulmonary pressure, and air flows into lungs. Then elastic coil of chest and lungs leads passive exhalation. Tracheal intubation-tube inserted to mouth/nose and advanced into trachea. Cricothyrotomy-airway inserted through surgical opening in cricothyroid membrane. Tracheotomy-is surgical procedure on neck to open direct airway through incision in trachea.

Manual method Mouth to mouth- 1 23 4 5 6

7 1-place victim on back loosen shirt around neck 2-Open his mouthand sweep finger to remove debris(blood, knocked teeth) 3-Hold back of neck and tilt his head as far as can 4-take deep breath and blow in to nose by sealing mouth will rises the chest as air get into lungs 5-Wait victims chest to fall and also do twice, frequently

Mouth to nose- in maxillofacial injuries Mouth to mouth & nose- used in infants,as this forms most effective seal Mouth to mask- to reduce cross infection risk & also pocket mass which will provide higher tidal volume. 6-continue mouth to mouthat rate of 10-20 breath per minute, until victim start breath or can get medical help 7-once victim breathe normally put in recovery position Recovery position - the correct position in which to place victim who is breathing while waiting for help to arrive by keeping the airway open.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) CPR isan emergency supportive and specific treatment given immediately to patient whose cardiac and ventilatory activity had stopped. Causes of cardio respiratory arrest are- - cessation of heart function & - ventricular fibrillation. CPR- unlikely to start heart, purpose is to msaintain flow of blood to brain and heart, thereby delaying tissue death and also without permanent brain damage.

Objective To maintain pulmonary ventilation by adjusting partial pressure of oxygen in artery. Initiate and facilitate pumping of heart And maintain circulation.
