7  CASTING PROCESS CASTING IS THE PROCESS OF PRODUCING METAL PARTS BY POURING MOLTEN METAL INTO THE MOULD CAVITY OF THE REQUIRED SHAPE AND ALLOWING THE METAL TO SOLIDIFY. THE SOLIDIFIED METAL PIECE IS CALLED AS “CASTING”.

15  ADVANTAGE NO WASTAGE OF THE RAW MATERIAL. BETTER MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE PRODUCT. FASTER PRODUCTION RATE.  DISADVANTAGE HIGHER AMOUNT OF FORCE AND ENERGY IS REQUIRED FOR METAL FORMING PROCESS COMPARED TO OTHER MANUFACTURING METHOD(EXCEPT THE FORMING OPERATIONS).

16  FABRICATION /JOINING PROCESS  METAL FABRICATION IS THE BUILDING OF METAL STRUCTURES BY CUTTING, BENDING, AND ASSEMBLING PROCESSES. IT IS A VALUE ADDED PROCESS THAT INVOLVES THE CONSTRUCTION OF MACHINES AND STRUCTURES FROM VARIOUS RAW MATERIALS.  MANUFACTURING PROCESS IN WHICH AN ITEM IS MADE (FABRICATED) FROM RAW OR SEMI-FINISHED MATERIALS INSTEAD OF BEING ASSEMBLED FROM READY-MADE COMPONENTS OR PARTS.

17  CLASSIFICATION OF FABRICATION PROCESS FABRICATION IS THE ACT OF TAKING RAW STOCK MATERIAL AND TURNING IT INTO A PART FOR USE IN AN ASSEMBLY PROCESS. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF FABRICATION PROCESSES. THE MOST COMMON AREUSE IN AN ASSEMBLY PROCESS CUTTING FOLDING MACHINING SOLDERING SHEARING STAMPING WELDING

19  ADVANTAGE :- LOW POSSIBILITY OF HAZ IN THE JOINT. NO NEED FOR FILLER METAL. REDUCE LATENCY. NO TOOL WEAR. LBW IS NOT INFLUENCED BY MAGNETIC FIELDS.  DISADVANTAGE :- JOINTS MUST BE ACCURATELY POSITIONED. MAXIMUM WELD PENETRATION IS LIMITED(19-21MM).

20  MATERIAL REMOVAL/MACHINING PROCESS MACHINING IS ANY OF VARIOUS PROCESSES IN WHICH A PIECE OF RAW MATERIAL IS CUT INTO A DESIRED FINAL SHAPE AND SIZE BY A CONTROLLED MATERIAL-REMOVAL PROCESS.

23  Advantages Machining processes allow high precision components to be rapidly produced.  Disadvantages Machining processes are not suitable for removing large amounts of material. There can be a large amount of wastage.
