2 Satellite Communications Solutions Absolute Satellite Services (ABSAT) provides the highest level of technical support to the satellite communication industry. ABSAT offers expert Field Engineering to install, test and commission large earth-stations. ABSAT owns and leases a fleet of fully licensed transportable earth-stations. However the greatest asset that ABSAT possesses are the employees. Their experience, training, dedication and flexibility significantly add to the overall superior quality provided by ABSAT to our clients. FIELD ENGINEERING: ABSAT provides technical support to the satellite industry, worldwide: Installations: ranging from installing 7.0M antennas in Siberia to installing major Hubs in China, complete earth-stations in Guatemala and maintaining shipboard terminals around the world. ABSAT employees have recently completed a major network rollout in Russia that included an 18M Hub in Moscow and multiple 7M remotes through out the former Soviet Union, The Republic of Georgia and Chechnya. ABSAT employees also installed and commissioned a major DAMA Hub and remotes in India and China. ABSAT completed the installation of an HNS 520-LC TDMA terminal in Ethiopia, this was the first and only TDMA system commissioned via a 13M antenna. Deinstalls: ABSAT’s capabilities include deinstallations and crating large earth-stations, deinstalling entire VSAT networks including Hubs, relocating and reinstalling. Disaster Recovery: ABSAT is also well known for their disaster recovery expertise. ABSAT employees were the first to provide technical support on St. Thomas after Hurricane Hugo to restore communications to that island. ABSAT staff was also in the Miami area after Hurricane Andrew. More recently ABSAT was involved with antenna repair and traffic restoration after civil war caused significant damage to a 32M antenna in Latin America. TRANSITIONS: ABSAT specializes in earth- station transitions. Our personnel are skilled in the complex effort involved in the migration of clients ground assets (antennas) from one spacecraft to another with minimal traffic interruption. For example, ABSAT employees supported one client by transitioning more than 60 of their customers and over 200 antennas from existing space segment to their new spacecraft. EARTH STATION TESTING: Typical test sequences performed by ABSAT personnel include antenna optimization and verification, earth-station and Hub commissioning, SSOG for SCPC and IDR modems, full TDMA commissioning and complete telephony testing for DAMA remotes and Hubs. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: ABSAT’s staff has experience in all phases from planning to implementation, network implementations, transitions and other long term projects. This function can be provided both Domestically and Internationally either on site at the clients location or from ABSAT’s facility in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. INTEGRATION, FABRICATION AND TESTING: Construction is currently underway for a ABSAT owned fabrication, integration and test facility. This asset replaces a leased building and will be in operation in late 2001, greatly enhancing ABSAT’s capability. Functions at the new location will include cable fabrication, rack integration, IF/RF subsystem and antenna testing, this with the option of actually operating systems live over spacecraft. TRAINING: ABSAT provides training at either the customers location or at our facility. ABSAT’s experienced staff will prepare the course material or use existing customer documentation for customized, optimum train- ing. ABSAT is currently under contract to provide Satellite training to the US Marine Corps. TRANSPORTABLE EARTH STATIONS ABSAT currently owns and operates a fleet of transportable earth-stations, communications shelters, crane trucks, generators and support vehicles. The antennas can be either trailer or NPM type mounted, for both C and Ku-band frequencies. These systems are FCC licensed to carry traffic both domestically and internationally from single 9.6Kbs carrier via 1.8M Ku VSAT type for low speed data applications, to 5.0M Ku major traffic DS3 (45Mbs or multiple T1 use). ABSAT maintains a full compliment of SCPC equipment, such as HPAs, RFTs, modems and converters. These systems can be configured to deliver efficient, cost effective and innovative solutions for customers’ specific applications.
