2 Canals. Canals are man-made channels for water.

3 Canyon A deep valley with very steep sides - often carved from the Earth by a river.

4 River A large stream of water that flows over land into a larger body of water.

5 Lake A body of water surrounded by land.

6 Delta A triangular deposit of soil at the mouth of a river.

7 Gulf A large part of an ocean that reaches into the land.

8 Strait A narrow strip of water connecting two large bodies of water.

9 Harbor A sheltered area of water deep enough to dock a ship.

10 Peninsula A body of land surrounded by water on 3 sides.

11 Isthmus A narrow strip of land that connects two larger bodies of land.

12 Cape A pointed piece of land that juts out into a large body of water.

13 Desert A very dry land area.

14 Archipelago A group of islands.

15 Plateau A broad flat area of land higher than the surrounding land.

16 Bay A body of water that is partly enclosed by land (and is usually smaller than a gulf).

17 Glacier A long-lasting, slowly- moving river of ice on land.

18 Island A piece of land that is surrounded by water.

19 Mountain A very tall, high, natural place on Earth - higher than a hill. The tallest mountain on Earth is Mt. Everest.

20 Mesa A land formation with a flat area on top and steep walls - usually occurring in dry areas.

21 Oceans A large body of salt water that surrounds a continent. Oceans cover more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface.

22 Valley A low place between mountains.

23 Oasis A place in the desert that has water and is fertile.

24 Plain Plains are flat lands that have only small changes in elevation.

25 Basin A circular or oval valley, or depression of the surface of the ground, the lowest part of which is generally occupied by a lake, or traversed by a river..

26 Flood Plain The low, flat, periodically flooded lands adjacent to rivers, lakes and oceans.

27 Cataract A large waterfall or rapids.

28 Volcano A mountainous vent in the Earth's crust. When a volcano erupts, it spews out lava, ashes, and hot gases from deep inside the Earth.

29 Tributary A stream or river that flows into a larger river.

30 Hill A raised area or mound of land.
