The Emancipation Proclamation It is an Executive order from, and hand written by president Abraham Lincoln in 1863, that addresses to the entire country that the slaves in the rebelling states are set free. It also says that people can avoid violence unless it is in self defense, in which they can fight back. “And by the virtue of the power, and fortune purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated states, and parts of states are henceforward set free…” You can tell it is from the Civil War era even if you don’t know what it is by the way it is written and it mentions the armed rebellion against the Government.

Frederick Douglass on the Fourth Of July During the letter of Frederick Douglass he states why african americans deserve to have freedom and not be bondage to slavery a quote from his letter says " Must I argue the wrongfulness of slavery? Is that a question for republicans? Is it to be settled by the rules of logic and argumentation, as a matter beset with great difficulty, involving a doubtful application of the principle of justice, hard to understand?
