Even if an object in a vector graphic is quite large, it doesn't need a lot of computer memory. Therefore the file size of a vector graphic is often very small. Vector graphics are scalable - ie when you resize them, they do not lose quality. Bitmap (Raster) When you take a photograph using a digital camera or scan an image from a magazine, you are creating a bitmap graphic. A bitmap graphic is composed of many tiny parts, called pixels which make the images look realistic Since the computer has to store information about every single pixel in the image, the file size of a bitmap graphic is often quite large. When you resize a bitmap graphic, it tends to lose quality

8. FUN GYM GRAPHIC PAINTING SOFTWARE Painting software is used to create original pieces of work using input devices like your mouse or graphics tablet. A graphics tablet is a touch-sensitive surface that you draw on with a pen. It reproduces what you draw on screen. They are generally preferred by professional designers. Windows Paint is the most basic painting software and is included with the Windows operating system ( free software). Programs with more features are Adobe Photoshop (paid for software) and GIMP (open source) which also allow you to edit photos.

FUN GYM ABOUT – ADOBE PHOTOSHOP  Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems  It can edit and compose raster images  Photoshop has vast support for graphic file formats but also uses its own PSD and PSB file formats  In addition to raster graphics, it has limited abilities to edit or render text, vector graphics, 3D graphics and video.

FUN GYM ABOUT – ADOBE FIREWORKS  Adobe Fireworks is a bitmap and vector graphics editor.  Fireworks was created specifically for web production.  In terms of image compression, Fireworks has a better compression rate than Photoshop with JPEG, PNG and GIF images.JPEGPNGGIF  Animated World Books could benefit from using Fireworks as they are likely to be uploading content on to their website.

FUN GYM DESKTOP PUBLISHING Desktop publishers are often used to produce newspapers, magazines, posters, newsletters and leaflets.  The main advantage of desktop publishing is that it is frame based. Text and picture frames can be laid out on the page, and moved and resized as necessary.  Text and graphics can be inserted, e.g. from clip art, word art and imported from other sources too. For example, text written by a professional writer or photos and illustrations provided by a professional designer.  Publisher comes standard with templates to help users create professional looking documents
