On To The Basics: What Is Copyright?  Copyright is the law of the U.S. that protects the works of authors artists, composers, and other forms of being used without permission.  The copyright law balances the rights of and others with the rights of the public.

Do’s And Don’ts of Copyright Like fashion, in copyright law, there are things you can and can’t do. Things you can do are:  Ask for permission to use someone’s work.  You have to give the creator credit  You can use certain things for school projects, just keep in mind that you can only use certain amounts of the songs material, lyrics, or audio. Things you CAN’T do include:  Using other people’s ideas and passing them off as your own.  Not give credit to the original author, paintor, sculptor  And you can’t use things on web pages, even if the copyright symbol doesn’t show.

Troubles of Copyright Copyright is good in its own way, but there are some troubles, such as:  An owners copyright doesn’t end until 70 years after their death  You can only use 10% or up to 3 minutes of someone’s media motion (for a project)  You can use only 100 words of someone’s text (for a project)  You can use on 30 seconds of a music file (for a project)

Friends and Copyright As you know, copyright is a law, and everyone is entitled to their rights. But what if someone wants special treatment? YYou have the right to say no YYou should never steal someone’s work or ideas, that’s PLAGIARISM NNever give special treatment to someone close, IT’S STILL AGAINST THE LAW!

What Exactly Is Plagiarism Plagiarism is to-  Steal and pass off the ideas or words of another as one's own  To use another's production without crediting the source  To commit literary theft  In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.

How To Avoid Plagiarism  Acknowledge that certain material has been borrowed  Provide your audience with the information necessary to find that source  Become aware of the reasons plagiarism occurs  Identify the different forms of plagiarism  Integrate plagiarism prevention techniques into your courses And usually, this is enough to prevent plagiarism.

Copyright And Music: How It Protects There are principally 2 types of copyright when we talk about music copyright The first is:  The traditional ©, applies to the composition, musical score, lyrics, as well as any artwork or cove designs  When you register, you can include them all in a single registration (provided they have the same copyright owner)  Applies to the sound recording itself, and is signified by the ‘P in a circle’. The second type of copyright:

How Copyright Protects Your Visual Art Visual Arts under copyright law are just that – art that you can see. More specifically, they are two dimensional, three-dimensional, graphic or applied art works. Some examples of Visual Arts:  Photographs Drawings – Including Logos, Paintings, Greeting Cards  Jewelry Designs  Architectural Drawings  Advertisements  Sculptures  Posters  Cartoons/comic strips  Patterns for clothing

Copyright And Literature You shouldn’t steal other people’s literary works, doing so is plagiarism, but, if you want to use someone’s ideas you should:  Make it obvious that you are quoting their words and ideas  Give credit to the writer  Ask permission to use their idea or literature  Change up the concept or outcome, but still use the same CORE idea

Creating Your Own Personalized Ideas Ending Page I know it seems that someone’s idea is the best idea in the world, but trust your senses, and use your imagination to create your own ideas! Here are some steps:  Keep a journal (private) of some ideas you have  Use your imagination, and creativity as well  Stay original, and write down any and every idea that comes to mind.  Copyright when you have your perfect idea, and let no one steal it; Using these methods, you may soon be receiving mail for people to use YOUR ideas! THE END
