3 Microbiology Biochemistry Pharmacology Process Engineering Genetics Research Health Food Brewing Biopharmaceuticals Biotechnology

4 Why study Biotechnology? Have a broad interest in the application of life science Interested in a career related to industry – Research and/or production Interested in academic research in biotechnology – Microbiology, food, biochemistry, cell biology, process engineering etc

5 What is the B.Sc Biotech? The B.Sc in Biotechnology will provide students with an excellent training in many aspects of modern biotechnology – 40% Microbiology – 40% Biochemistry and Cell Biology – 15% Process Engineering – 5% Pharmacology Managed by School of Microbiology Supported by Janssen Biologics – Award a student bursary (€2,500 per year)

6 What is the B.Sc Biotech? Placement – 5-6 months in industry (or academic lab) – May-October (summer between Year 3 and Year 4) – Organized through Careers Office – Placement allocation based on CV and interviews Final year research project – 6 week research project in UCC laboratory during Semester 1B, Year 4
