6 Curriculum What a topic looks like  Big Question  Each topic will have a curriculum focus  Cross Curricular Approach  Sparkly Starters and Fab Finishes  Jigsaw  Discovery  Hands on engaging learning experiences for all children to access and enjoy.

7 Visits In/Out  Generic permission slip for local visits gone out.  Each year group will have one trip out and at least one visitor into school during the year.  The cost of these visits will be no more than £15 over the course of the whole year.  Year 1 – Visit to Farmers Palmers  Year 2 – Visit to Seaside

8 PE Kit MondayDucks and Mice Outdoor PE Rabbits and Owls Indoor PE ThursdayRabbits and Owls Outdoor PE FridayDucks and Mice Indoor PE Children to receive 2 hours of P.E a week. One indoor session and one outdoor. We will try and get out in most conditions. Children are able to have an outside P.E kit consisting of trousers and a jumper. Please ensure that your child is not wearing earrings on their PE day. PE Kit White T-Shirt, Black shorts or trousers, green or black jumper, trainers or plimsolls.

11 Reading  Parent support very much appreciated. Each child will receive a Reading Record that should come to school with them everyday.  Year 1 and some Year 2 children to continue with Read, Write, Inc. Scheme (Parent Workshop in October).  Guided Reading  Comprehension  Spotty Books (opportunity to change everyday as an independent task)  Library Books (Year 1 – Wednesday Year 2- Tuesday)

12 Spelling  Spellings will be given out on a Friday to be tested on the following Thursday.  Spellings are ‘Red words’ and taken from Year 1 and Year 2 word lists  New spelling books for spellings  Year 1 and 2 spellings will go out on 18 th September

13 Home Learning  Whole School Approach  Home Learning planner each half term, with half term learning activities.  Home Learning sent out on a Friday and returned by the following Wednesday  One book to be personalised and covered  Topic Home Learning on going  Weekly Home Learning with a Maths or Literacy focus  Weekly spellings

14 Groupings  Set for Literacy continuing with Read, Write, Inc. scheme from Reception.  Remain in classes for Maths and Topic work in the afternoons. Year One Year Two  Set for Phonics/Guided Reading Sessions. Remain in classes for main Literacy lessons.  Remain in classes for Maths  Remain in classes for topic work in the afternoons.

15 Assessment Procedures  Year One Phonics Screening Test takes place in the Summer Term. Informed of whether your child has met standard in their end of year School Report. Any children who did not meet standard last year will get the opportunity to retake the test.  Year Two End of Key Stage One Assessments take place in May and June. The children will be fully prepared for this and we will try to make it as stress free as possible. You will receive your child’s results in their end of year School Report.

17 Partnership With Parents Working Together  Communication – Newsletters, website, parents evenings and workshops, open door policy  Skills – do you have any hidden talents that we could utilise?  A Helping Hand – always willing for parents, grandparents, family members to come into school to support with various tasks.
