2 Look at the sentences below. What do you notice about when each takes place? Ms. Petersen always wants pizza. Yesterday, she wanted pepperoni pizza. She will want pizza tomorrow. Turn and talk. Be prepared to share.

3 The verb you use in a sentence helps you tell when something happens. The time expressed by a verb is called its tense. Verbs show times by changes in the tense. There are three tenses: past, present, and future.

4 Present-tense verbs – show something that is happening NOW Example: Johanna always WANTS something different Rule – Add S or ES to a present tense verb when the subject is a singular noun.

5 Past Tense verbs – show something that is happening NOW Example: Johanna always WANTS something different

6 Future Tense verbs – shows that something has not happened yet. Example: Tomorrow, Johanna WILL WANT something different.
