7 NCEA Subject Scholarships Collect the form from teacher (one form per subject) OR collect form now. Get subject teachers/HOD to sign Parents signature Return to teacher by end of week 8 Term 2

8 Tertiary Scholarships Some are automatic eg Waikato $3000 for every student with NCEA Level 3 Merit Others are based on Year 12 or year 13 results (300GPA) as well as involvement in activities and leadership responsibilities (260GPA). Some are subject specific eg IPENZ Some are for Excellence in sport or culture eg Hillary Scholarship for Waikato

9 Search for appropriate scholarships on – The specific University website – Breakout – this is a scholarship data base available on the computers in the careers centre. – See the handout for details

10 Tertiary Scholarships You may need to apply for a school reference Complete the handout form and return to Mrs McMullen You must see Mrs McMullen to request your specific reference at least TWO WEEKS ahead of the due date. This is essential if the reference is to be completed on time.

12 Hostel Accommodation Applications Begin the process by completing the attached Hostel Application form and returning it to Mrs McMullen by the end of week 9 this term You then need to apply online after August 1 st Places can be difficult to get in some hostels – eg O’Rourke in Auckland, Te Puni in Wellington, Knox, St Margarets in Otago. Some Christian hostels are already full.

13 Check the specific University website for information on hostels Think about – is it close to university/tech? - Does it provide meals or is it self-catering? -How many students does it cater for? -How much does it cost? Choose up to 3 different Universities to apply for if you have not yet chosen your course.
